Metal clicked.
A sound most would ignore, much like cutlery tapping cold prongs against plates and bowls.

Metal shifted — tugged at the delicate hand of glass.

The motions were slow. Pain distant to numbed feelings.
The sounds...gentle. Almost unheard like shallow breaths tucked away in shadows or distant street corners.

The hand tugged once again against the slender grasp of metal around skin.

If one could just snap the restraint slip it off for a much needed chance of escape.

The one thing...of many unseen things...keeping a feminine frame at bay.

She stills at the large hand wrapping around her own, tracing warm senses up to her knees and shivers went through bone never to be noticed.

"Stop." The gentle command spoke out and her brow was creased with questions blocked by strands of h/c hair. "You know you're not supposed to take it off."

A breath was stolen.

A soul lost in limbo, forever left to wander a barren wasteland.

E/c eyes shift up to meet the owner of a blurred face — a fire frozen to frame black-framed glasses and sharp eyes.
The warm hand moves, taking her own with care yet she couldn't help but feel something was...off?

"I do not understand...why?" Her voice was sore from a lack of use.

"You may not. Not for some time, but you must trust that it is there to keep you safe."

Regardless of the figure's calmed tone, the young girl knew something wasn't right; unclear in glints of shadowed secrets.
Her inhale was kept staggered, lending a hand to many questions.
Her eyes were clouded, etched in uncertainty and mixing with the laid beginnings of fear.

"How?" Another hoarse response and she pulls her hands to her chest, knees falling to lay beside her.
"How is..."

No. No wait—

"How is this safe?" She questions, a solemn gaze following linked chains to the wall.
"How is-"

"The world is dangerous." A new voice speaks up, the blurred features of a distant frame watching from afar.
"The world is only ever out to hurt you."

Hair darker than coal. Dusty from faded light barely reaching soft tresses of short hair.

"It hurts." The girl whispers dryly, a careful hand rubbing her upper arm and what sounded like a soft choke clung back composure against tears lining pale eyes.
"Why must I be in pain?"
Her shoulders grew tense, small hands rubbing slowly as though keeping away the cold nipping at exposed flesh.
"It's hurting me...please- please make it go away."

"Don't you trust me?"

Stop it.

No.

No that wasn't what he had said, was it?
