A Spark?

I woke the next morning refreshed and ready for another day on the job. I was exited to be doing my job, the one I trained for months to get, but I was a bit nervous. Why? Tomorrow is the day Steven comes to visit.

The last day of training went well, though I wasn't there for the others. We had a somewhat important meeting about the recent breech of the southern wall.

Erwin walked into the staff room and took his seat at the front of the room.

"So, as you all know, there was an attack at the south end of wall rose just a few days ago. We lost many lives, and many were injured or frozen"

Levi glanced at me. I avoided eye contact.

"Now we have many important questions to ask. One of the most important being how a twenty meter got through the wall without any apparent way in."

Hange sat forward. "Wait, so you're saying that there was no hole in the wall for the titan to come through?"

Erwin motioned to Eren, a silent way of telling him to speak.

Eren was quiet for a moment. "When I transformed into titan form to fix the wall, there was no damage to it whatsoever."

We all looked at each other. We had all seen a hole in the wall and Mikasa saw the titan come through. Now there was no damage?

Erwin continued. "Another big question we must answer is where all those titans were coming from and why."

Captain Davidson spoke up. "We could send Ackerman's team out to investigate the woods. They already investigated once. Maybe they could actually come back with some news this time."

"No."

Everyone looked at Levi.

"I don't want my team out there investigating again. I almost lost one of my members last time. I won't let that happen. If anyone, Davidson's team should investigate. They've been on the force longer. They have more experience."

"Me? Why should my team go investigate?"

Levi's voice stayed monotone, but there was aggravation in it. "Why should mine?"

Erwin slammed his hands down on the table. "That's enough. Hange's team will investigate the wall, Ackerman's will investigate the west side, and Davidson's will investigate the east." With that, Erwin stood and left the staff room.

Hange looked at the door. "Well, that was a short meeting."

...................

I walked out of the musty old building, thankful to have some fresh air. The sun was setting, turning the sky pink. Like always, I headed for the mess hall.

"Y/n!"

I turned at the sound of my name. My eyes widened.

"S-Steven.."

He walked to me.

"I-I thought you were coming tomorrow..."

He smirked. "Well, I thought I'd surprise you."

And what a surprise it was.

"Well, are you going to greet me, or continue standing there like an idiot?" He took a step closer.

I, on the other hand, took a step backward. He noticed.

"What? Are you scared? Little bitch. I'm surprised they took you, you're such a baby." He stepped closer.

"I...well, I..." I stared at his mocking face. I had lost my words. He reached out to grab me.

"Excuse me."

We both turned at the sudden voice.

Levi strode to us. "Sevillians aren't allowed on base at this time."

Steven looked angry "I'm her girlfriend." He said, pointing a judgmental finger at me.

Levi was unfazed. "I don't give a shit. This is a week day, and you are not allowed on base. Tomorrow is the weekend. You can come back then."

Steven looked angry, but turned and walked into the distance.

I looked at Levi, but he was already gone.
