Y/n's Pov:

Levi reentered his room what had to be at leased fifteen minutes later.

"W-where's Steven?" I asked, a bit timid to even inquire.

Levi stayed silent as he walked across the room and pulled a chair up in front of me. I watched as he grabbed my wrist that I held tightly to my body and pulled up the sleeve. A dark bruise was forming from Steven's tight grip.

"Where he can't hurt you anymore."

I looked at him for a second. "How did you know he was hurting me before?"

"Your first day in boot camp I was visiting an old friend. I saw you with multiple other recruits. You should really have hidden your neck better if you didn't want anyone to see it."

He looked up into my eyes. They weren't as emotionless as they usually were. There was a hint of sadness mixed in his tired, gray eyes.

"We need to get you to the infirmary." He stood, still gingerly holding my arm and walked just a few steps before stopping at the resistance of my arm. I didn't want the people in the infirmary to know. I didn't want anyone to know. It was to embarrassing to admit that I would let one man push me around that much. He looked back at me, seeming to sense my reluctance to go. He let out a sigh and dropped my arm before opening his wardrobe and rummaging around for a first aid kit.

I watched him wrap my wrist gently. For someone who seems so heartless, he may be the kindest man I know. Besides my brother. Lucas.

"-AND NEXT TIME I TELL YOU TO DO THE DAMN DISHES, YOU BETTER DO THEM!"

My father slammed the door in my face, leaving me alone outside. I ran down the long path through the woods as fast as a three year old can run before plopping down to a large oak tree, tears running down my cheeks.

I sat there for an hour or so, crying and wishing myself somewhere else.

"Tweedy bird?" A soft voice called.

I looked up to see my older brother, still wearing his old work shirt from the carpentry shop, looking down at me in concern. He knelt down beside me.

"Let me see."

I reluctantly showed him the long scratch across my arm from were the flying plate had cut my skin.

"Why does daddy hate me?" I asked, a fresh bout of tears welling up.

"Daddy doesn't hate you. He's just...Well, he's just, he's not a very nice man. That's all. Besides, who could ever hate you?"

That mad a small smile flash across my face.

"See? It's not so bad is it?" I reached up and wiped the tears of my small cheeks.

His face was smiling, but their was anger in his eyes.

"That reminds me, it's your birthday isn't it?"

I nodded, a little confused.

Lucas reached into his satchel and pulled out a small puppy.

"A puppy!" I cried, happily holding it in my arms. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Lucas laughed. "Anything for my Tweedy bird."
