The holidays were near, and you only wanted one thing: a fresh snowfall. The weather had been all sorts of wonky lately; as things were on the Grand Line, but dammit you wanted a nice, calm, white Christmas. Luckily, after all that manifesting and shaking your fist at the sky, your wish was granted one night.

You were just up because you couldn't sleep, hoping that a walk would help you with that problem. When you came up on deck though, you were greeted with a distinct chill in the air, little snowflakes falling before you. Suddenly you didn't care that you couldn't sleep, immediately captured by the silence of the night while glittering snow fell around you. Childish wonder took over as you ran out onto the center of the deck, lying back on the grass to take in the rare weather.

Simple things such as a calm snowfall were enough to bring you joy. Calm anything on the Grand Line was honestly a miracle. You found peace in it, relieved that the world was kind enough to grant you at least one non-destructive weather condition to enjoy. It was nice... until a tall figure loomed over you, obscuring your vision of the sky.

"... Brook?" You questioned.

"In the flesh! Or rather, the bone. Yohoho!" He greeted in response.

With a scoff and a grin, you rolled yourself upright and turned to face him. He held a box in his arms, looking as excited as ever. He was on night watch, so it did make sense for him to be out and about, but...

"What's in the box, huh?" You asked, getting straight to the point.

"I'm glad you asked~! I was planning on doing a little... decorating tonight to surprise everyone in the morning. You know, for the season!" He told you, shaking the box he held a bit. "Would you care to join me in doing so~?"

"Aaah, so that's what's in the box." You hummed. "You know what? Hell yeah. I'd love to help out. I can't sleep anyway."

"Perfect~! Let's get to it then, shall we?"

For a 90 year old skeleton, he sure was filled with childish joy. It was infections of course, and when he pivoted to dash off to the mast to put things down, you found yourself getting up just as dramatically, ready to decorate the entire deck of the Sunny. It would be a pretty big job, so maybe it was a good thing you came out while he had his little plan. You were just what he needed.

The two of you soon hovered over the box he once held, pulling out long strands of garland that you both began to weave through the railings on either side of the deck as your first order of decoration. It was a pretty big box, so it made sense when you and Brook comically hauled pine along the deck and up the masts. That couldn't have been all though, because that box alone was nothing but garland and tinsel. You shot him a look of confusion, but he was already prepared.

"Don't worry! There's plenty more to do still." Brook stated without missing a beat.

He threw open the kitchen door and showed you the pile of several additional boxes sitting inside. He must've hauled them up from storage after everyone went to bed.

"Wow you weren't kidding." You laughed. "Let's get to it then!"

And so you continued, both of you grabbing a box and dragging it out to unload and decorate. These boxes had more ornaments, things that glittered, and plenty of other festive looking decorations. Hell, there was even a giant hat for the figurehead of the Sunny. That was the one you took first, laughing at the hilarity of it as you ran to drop the hat on the front of the ship. You returned just as quickly to finish the rest of the job, time passing you by a lot quicker than you wanted it to.

Soon, the entire ship was decked out to the nines, covered in decorations that shimmered in the moonlight. Ornaments hung from all sorts of places along with streamers, the gentle snowfall really tying the scene together. You were proud of the work you had done and set your hands on your hips, panning your vision across the scene one more time.

"It looks like someone vomited glitter all over the deck. I love it~" You hummed, appreciative of the festive decor.

"This went a lot quicker than planned. I'm really glad I happened upon you tonight _____!" Brook said sweetly.

"You can thank the snow for that! It's so nice to finally have a gentle snowfall so I... a-CHOO!" You sneezed, frankly appalled that such a noise dared to come from you.

The wind had picked up just a little, sending a chill down your spine. It was nice, but realistically, still quite cold. It was no wonder you unleashed a sneeze. You were about to grumble about it, but found Brook's large orange feather boa to be draped over your shoulders and wrapped around your head like a mummy several times over. You spat feathers in surprise, but it was warm, and when you peeked through the fluff, you saw Brook holding back laughter.

"You look so offended by your own sneeze." He snorted, reaching out to put a hand to your back. "C'mon. Come in the kitchen to warm up with me."

"You don't have to tell me twice." You huffed, your breath now visible in the cool night air.

You graciously pulled that feather boa of his tighter around you and waddled into the kitchen with him close behind, happy to have a wall of warm air greet you. When he closed the door behind you, you let loose a violent shiver, little bits of snow that had fallen on you flying off. Brook finally let that chuckle slip, moving around behind the counter to boil some water while you took a seat at it, resting on the cushioned bar.

"What are ya making?" You finally asked, unwrapping yourself from the confines of the boa.

"Hot chocolate to warm you up." He answered nonchalantly, as if this were part of a routine.

"And why is there only one cup then? Shouldn't you be making yourself some too?" You observed as you draped his boa over the bar.

"Oh, there is no need! I'm already naturally chilled to the bone, so I'm alright~!" He jested again, shooting you a ridiculous look.

You laughed, but not without a dramatic eye roll. He knew you loved it all the same though. Brook then finished making your hot chocolate and slid it to you across the counter before joining you on the padded bar. You were grateful for the warm cup that you quickly took into your hands, the feeling of cold thankfully leaving you.

There was a moment of silence as you enjoyed the hot chocolate, listening to the sound of the wind picking up again outside. Oddly enough, it was quite peaceful, and you appreciated this little moment that came of you being unable to sleep.

"... _____, thank you. For indulging me by decorating with me, I mean." Brook then spoke softly, breaking that silence. "It's been quite a long time since I last had the chance to decorate for the season."

Your expression softened. "Of course. How could I not indulge you? This season is meant for spending time with those you love." You assured him, leaning yourself against him a bit.

You calmly sipped your drink, comfortable with your position. Above you, Brook was positively glowing, very much appreciating how you kept your focus down on the counter.

"Thank you, _____. Genuinely."

He leaned back into you a little himself, feeling oddly warm at your side. It was a warmth he thought he had long lost honestly... Yet here was that same feeling once again. All it took was enjoying the simpler things for a while, that familiar feeling soon finding its way back. He was finally able to celebrate the holidays with someone again. He wasn't alone this time.

God... it really was just the simple things that mattered most.
