weird was the first word that came to mind while miyazaki watched people party by the pool. though she was watching others, she also felt like she was being watched and it wasn't a nice feeling at all.

"you're not going to join them?" kuina asked and the shorter turned around to look at her laying on one of the sunbeds.

"i'm not a party type of person." she replied then sat on the sunbed next to her. "it's strange here."

"how so?"

"people seem like they're having the time of their lives without a care in the world, but when you're playing a game, all you can think about is surviving. this is just an escape from reality."

"you don't like it here?" kuina asked, glancing at her from the corner of her eyes.

"not at all."

an alarm went off before either of them could say anything more and people began cheering. miyazaki stood up, her eyes following the people leaving the pool and rushing into the building.

"what's happening?" she asked kuina.

"it's time for the games. come on."

the two girls made their way into the building where everyone was crowding, looking up at the balcony that hatter was standing on, kuina had told her his name.

as miyazaki followed kuina to stand by a wall in the corner, a little further away from the crowds, she noticed a familiar blonde also standing there, his arms folded across his chest.

"ah. if it isn't the bastard who got me dragged into this shit." she said, leaning her side against the wall.

"you know each other?" kuina asked.

"we played two games together." chishiya replied then turned to miyazaki. "did you find the answer yet?"

"it's a map." she replied, holding the paper, they had found after the tag game, in his direction. he hummed and took it from her. 

"my comrades!" hatter yelled from above, silencing everyone. "the time has come again tonight. do not falter! this is a war against fear! everyone has the courage to overcome their obstacles. everyone here is now one! we shall unite and gather all cards and return to the original word together! and... that day is upon us! let's go!"

"get in the car marked with your number!" someone yelled from the crowd.

miyazaki took the paper out of the band on her wrist. kuina glanced over her shoulder at which number she had and then at her own paper.

"we have the same game."

"lead the way."

the two found the car for their game and there were already four other people there, including the woman with sunglasses that was an executive. she pushed her glasses up and then entered the car, leaving the door open for the two girls to get in.

"her name is ann." kuina whispered before they got into the car. "she's probably here to monitor how well you do."

they set off shortly to the game arena. the entirety of the car ride, miyazaki stared out the window. she couldn't lie, the concept of the beach was quite smart. the fact that they had so many people going off to play games and increase the chance of collecting as many cards as needed. of course, people were going to die, but still, there were many more lives for hatter to use to get what he needed. if miyazaki made her way up the ranks, she could have what she wanted as well.
