MOVING THE PAPERS ASIDE I TOOK A SIT ON THE BED RIGHT NEXT TO THE BOY, EYES GLUED ON THE FLOOR. The silence between us didn't last long as it was broken when he asked "Why does Enola keep all these old newspapers?"

"She's waiting for her mother to leave her a message. At least she hopes she will" I mumbled. I too, wished that Enola's mother would leave her some type of message. From Edith's words, we had concluded that both of our mothers went into hiding together.

So if Eudoria Holmes did as much as leaving her daughter a simple message, I would at least know that they are alive. That my mother is alive. I may not know what they have gotten themselves into but what I do know is that the situation is dangerous.

"She left her you know. My mother did too" I sighed. "People just don't seem to want us do they?" the boy asked, to which I turned my head to look at him. Tears were threatening to spill from his eyes that were looking directly into mine.

"My family wanted to send me off to a military school. Your mother left you. And so did Enola's" he spoke, his gaze shifting to the floor. "No. It's different" I stated as Tewkesbury looked up.

"Mine and Enola's mothers had to leave. They didn't have a choice. But your family wanted to send you off when they could have made an entirely different choice" I said, refusing to believe that my mother would ever leave me if it wasn't for something really serious.

My mother means so much to me. Although I rarely mentioned it when she was around, I love her with my whole heart and I know she loves me too. That's why I know she would never leave me. And even if she wanted to she couldn't, for she had promised me she would always be there for me. that she would always be by my side.

I refused to believe that Amaryllis L/n would leave her daughter for something insignificant. Because in that case I fear I might reach my breaking point.

These thoughts only lasted a few couple of seconds. And when my mind started to clear I realised the mistake I had just made.

The boy next to me was seeking comfort and saying these words would only make him feel worse. "I'm sorry. I should have said that" I apologized.

Tewkesbury looked at me, telling me it's alright. "No it's not. It's not alright."

The boy was pretending not to be bothered by my previous words but the tears that had escaped his eyes said otherwise. "I'm sure your family had a really good reason for wanting to send you to that military school. I'm sure they care about you."

"I know, I just wish that they would have asked me what I wanted first" Tewkesbury sighed. "But it doesn't matter anymore. They've made their choice and that has led me here. At least we have each other" he said giving me a smile as silence settled once again between us.

"I think the tea should be ready by now."

"WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO KILL ME?" TWEKESBURY ASKED ENOLA. "Countless reasons" she'd replay. "Y/n said that too" the boy murmured as the girl went on. "Your personality, you ridiculous hair, your silly smile or possibly your land, your estate, your seat" she listed.

"Same reasons they wanted your father dead" I stated. "It's impressive what greed does to people. You shouldn't even be surprised in the first place."

"So you are also saying you think they killed my father?" he asked. "We don't think. We know" Enola corrected him.

"No, none of this makes the slightest sense" the boy protested. "My father's death was caused by a botched burglary and it would have been easier to kill me before I ran away, rather than now" the boy explained.

"I entirely agree, I think they tried to" Enola said. "I found the branch that almost killed you. It had been cut."

I noticed the door move behind me as Enola signalled me not to turn my head just yet. "Cut?" Tewkesbury asked in disbelief. However any sort of conversation we were currently having was cut short as Enola grabbed the burning kettle and hit the man with it.

The man grunted as he tried to get up, failing to do so. Glancing at him I realised it was Lestrade, the man me and Enola met while visiting the Basilwether Hall. "Come on" Tewkesbury said, grabbing my arm as the man tried to stand up once again.

"Come back here" he shouted as we hurriedly made our way up the stairs and into Enola's room. "Who's he?" the boy asked confused. "I'm afraid your explanation will have to wait" I answered as I closed the door behind me.

"Move the chest" Enola ordered him as she helped me keep the door from opening. Heavy footsteps were heard as the man's grunts and yells became louder by any passing second.

Just as the chest was pushed in front of the door the man started trying to kick the door open. "Open up Miss Posy and Miss Alden" the man demanded as he continued trying to open the door. At the mention of those names Tewkesbury looked at me in confusion. "Or should I say Mill Holmes and Miss L/n?"

The man continued trying to pass the door open as all three of us were fighting to keep it from opening. "Inspector Lestrade I need to report an attempted murder" Enola tried as she continued to put all of her effort to keep the door from opening.

"You're supposed to be on our side!"

We heard the man ask for help and Enola turned to the boy next to me. "See that widow over there?" she asked to which the boy nodded. "It leads onto a roof" she added. "I need you to climb out and take off into nowhere."

"And leave you? No, no way" the boy protested. "I need to hold this door" Enola told him. "She's right. Your life is in danger" I added as I struggled to keep the door from opening. "But you two need to get away too" he argued. "We'll be fine. Go!"

At my words the boy turned to look at me. "But I don't want to leave you Y/n. I don't want to leave either of you."

"Go!" the boy finally listened to what we were saying and made his way out of the window. "You too Y/n" the girl said, her full attention on the door. "What? No! I'm not leaving you alone" I argued.

"Yes you are. I can take care of myself. He can't. Obviously" she said motioning to the boy who had stood by the window. "I need you to go with him, make sure he doesn't get murdered" she instructed. I really didn't want to leave her. She was the only female friend I've ever had, not counting Alicia.

"Whatever it is I'll handle it" she cut me off the moment I opened my mouth to speak. "Tewkesbury go, I'm coming" I yelled to the boy who was still standing by the window. From the corner of my eye I could see him escaping onto the roof.

"I'll miss you Enola. I promise I'll come get you" I said running towards the window. I knew she wouldn't be able to hold the door for much longer so if I didn't want me to be caught I had to leave now.

I heard a muffled 'I'll miss you too' as I jumped down from the window and onto the roof.

The only thing me and the boy besides me could hear was a series of yells and grunts as we made our way away from the flat.

Author's Note: I know I didn't update
for basically the whole December but as
it has fallen to my attention the past few
weeks life is trully cruel.

I'll try to keep up with the current updating
schedule but I'm not making any promises.

Also I'm so proud of Noah Schnapp for
coming out! He is literally the sweetest
human being and I love him so much.
