Before them lies a vast field, filled with birds lining up and pecking at the worms and beetles as they hurry by, squirrels and chipmunks hiding their feasts deep in the dirt.
"I always forget how stunning this field is in the morning." Reggie squawked, his eyes wide and full of wonder. Jenny simply smiled, also taking in the seemingly endless world before them. Reggie joins the crowd of other birds, sparrows and crows, all types of birds were present, not just turkeys. As Jenny walked up behind her husband, the other birds began to stare at her, their eyes piercing through her soul. It was custom that the females stayed at their flock, caring for the nestlings and fledglings, while the males went out for food. The other birds didn't care for Jenny's presence, viewing her as a freak, a lowly woman stepping out of line. Jenny shrunk down, feeling their eyes on her back. This happened everyday she went out for food. It was extremely discouraging, all she wanted to do was hunt for her flock.
"Uhm.. Reg? Could we wrap this up and leave?" Reggie glanced back to find Jenny on the verge of tears. A sense of guilt and shame overcame him. How could he let his dear wife feel so miserable?
"Of course Jen, anything for you." Reggie muttered, an uncomfortable stone settling in his throat. Reggie's mind began to wander to the future. They wouldn't have to endure the treatment the other birds gave them if they just went to the future..and Jake, oh how he missed Jake. They strolled back to their flock, heads hung low.
