JJ's POV:

Kie's mom was standing there and she totally just saw me laying in bed with her daughter and kissing her head goodnight.

"I'm sorry, I was just leaving" I said heading toward the door

"You do know that my daughter has a boyfriend right?"

"Yeah, I've met him, Dylan. I'm not trying to be her boyfriend. I'm here as her best friend"

She gave me a look and said, "That's not what it looked like. You're a pogue, she's way out of your league. Don't think for a second that you have a chance with my daughter"

I didn't say anything and then Dylan walked into her room.

"The hell you doing here?" Dylan said to me

"I'm just here taking care of Kie"

"She doesn't need you to take care of her. She has me. I'm her boyfriend"

"I never said I was trying to be her boyfriend. I've been her best friend for years and I'm just trying to be there for her when she's going through a hard time. I didn't you see here today during the funeral"

"JJ, it's time for you to leave" Kie's mom said forcing me to go

I left and I went home and went to bed. I woke up the next morning to a text from Kie.

Kie: You left me in the middle of the night and I woke up next to Dylan

JJ: I left pretty early. You fell asleep and I was leaving when your mom saw me in your room and then Dylan was leaving

Kie: I'm leaving to head back to school soon. Can you come pick me up and I'll take us out for breakfast?

JJ: I'll never turn down food

JJ: But I only have my bike

Kie: That's okay, as long as you let me drive

JJ: Hell no, I want to make it there alive

I quickly got up and got ready and headed over to Kie's house. When I arrived, she was waiting for me. She walked up to me and I took the one helmet I had off my head and placed it on hers. She got on the bike in front of me so she could drive. I didn't argue. I trusted her and it was more of a joke that she was a bad driver.

She drove to a small cafe and we went inside and sat down and ordered food.

"So where is Dylan?" I asked as I'm sure he wouldn't be happy that I was with Kie

"He's sleeping" She replied looking at the menu

We decided she was going to get the pancakes with bacon and I was getting the eggs with hashbrowns and we were going to share. We just talked and then the food came out. The food was amazing. We just put the plates in the middle and shared all the food. Kie paid and we went to leave.

Kie put the helmet on and she told me to drive her back home. She wrapped her arms around me and rested her head on my back. We arrived outside her house and she hugged me goodbye and then she went inside.

Kie was leaving to go back to Florida today. I know she was home under awful circumstances but I'm happy that I got to see her. Later that night Kie texted me.

Kie: Thank you for being there for me. It really means a lot and I'm sorry I forgot to thank you in person. I just got back to my dorm and I'm going to bed now

JJ: You don't have to thank me. I would do anything for you. Goodnight, Kie

I ended up putting my phone down and falling asleep. The next few weeks were pretty chill. I haven't talked to Kie since those texts from when she was home. She always has pictures of her and Dylan on social media. I was over it.

However, tonight I was at the Chateau and there was a knock at the door. I didn't think much of it. However, when I opened the door, my dad was standing there. He looked high, drunk, and pissed.

"What the fuck are you doing hiding out here from me boy?" He asked

"You need to leave" I said firmly but it was too late

A fight had broken out and my dad wasn't holding back. This was the worst fight we've ever been in. There was blood splattered everywhere. My lip was cut and dripping blood. My knuckles were also rough and cut up.

He got his words in too, telling me I was a worthless piece of shit, that I was the biggest mistake he ever made, the world would be better off without me, he even told me to kill myself because no one could ever love me.

I was in severe pain and usually, the pain didn't bother me. My dad left the chateau and I was laying on the floor coughing up blood. I was crying like a baby. I didn't want to get up. I could just lay here on the floor and die I would be okay with that.

I got up and I started drinking. I was a few cans deep when I went for the bottle of vodka. I wasn't big into hard liquor but tonight it went down like water. I was pretty much blacked out when I picked up the phone and made a phone call to someone I shouldn't have. I called Kie.

"Hey" She said as she answered the phone. Her voice sounded so soft and angel-like

"J, is everything okay?" She asked as I never replied to her

"Yeah, I'm great... Just got into a brutal fight with my dad but yeah life is awesome... You know it's what every boy wants their father to tell them that they should just die because no one will ever love me and the world would be better off without me. Because you know, I'm the biggest mistake of my dad's life" I said trying to play it off cool but I just sounded pathetic

I heard Kie scramble around as she talked, "JJ, do not listen to him, please. He is so wrong about you and everything else"

She went on and on and I honestly was so drunk that I couldn't hear her or I couldn't process what she was saying.

"I love you, Kie" I said ending the phone call and passing out on the Chateau floor

Finally, I was at peace. I wasn't in pain anymore. I told Kie how I felt. Noting else mattered anymore.
