The coffeehouse was buzzing with movement. People ordering, shrugging off scarfs and coats, chatting with friends and siping their drinks.
Eris was sitting in a seat by the window, with a perfect view of the inside of the shop and the street outside. She had a small Baguette and black coffee in front of her and stared out of the window, watching a squirrel scrambling up a nearby sycamore tree. One foot was wedged beneath her on the bench and she was leaning lazily into the cushioned seat. A Fleetwood Mac album was playing on her headphones.
She felt like laying down the length of her seat and just going to sleep. The weekend had taken a toll on her. Enid and herself had pored over the prophecy every waking moment, searching for hidden clues and meaning in the confusing verses. They had researched well known seers and prophecies in the library and had consulted the internet, with the vague hope of finding parts of the prophecy mistaken as poetry by Normies.
The had found little to nothing and Eris' head was now filled to the brim with useless information on diviners, their usually quite bleak predictions and mass slaughterings of suspected seers.

They were sure the dark and the light was speaking of her and of Jocelyn. So much was clear. Their powers seemed to be connected in a much broader way than they knew and Eris had told Enid about the incident of her trying to run away and them both almost dying at being too far apart.
Enid wondered out loud how they couldn't be closer with this extreme connection between them, but Eris stopped her a little rudely, not wanting to discuss her relationship with her sister. She didn't feel like justifying why she wanted to spent as little time as possible with her twin.

Enid had simply moved on, starting to question what a darker force was supposed to be and Eris, without hesitation, made a Star Wars joke, which completely went over Enids head. Apparently she had never seen any of the movies.

They had continued to research realms and tried to find out what could be meant by a darker space. Though they didn't find anything in the library.
What they agreed on, was that the prophecy must be talking about some sort of apocalyptic event that would take place, if this dark force used her and Jocelyn to get into the 'darker space'.
One half of what is whole, had them guess this force only needed one of them, though which, they didn't know. And if it had one half, whatever catastrophe was waiting for them, would happen, as soon as the dark veil would rise. They had debated long and thoroughly which half would be needed. At first they agreed it would be Eris, as so many words like darkness were used in the context, but soon they wondered whether it wasn't logical for a light to be needed in order to lift a dark veil and open up a dark space.
In the end they hadn't been able to find an answer.

Additionally, her nightmares had become worse. The whispers were now louder than ever, hissing painfully in her ears, yet still incomprehensible. A disturbing detail had also revealed itself to her; the thing, whatever it was, that pulled her sharply into the dark mist, just before she would wake from the dream had hands. She could now feel cold, clammy hands wrapping around her arms painfully tight, the bones bruising her skin and yanking her forward.
It made her shiver, just to think about it now.

Between their research and Eris' dreams the memory of her and Marilyn tightly embraced, kissing each other passionately didn't leave her mind. Always present, the image tortured her constantly; the desire to kiss her again never leaving, yet the knowledge of how the odds stood of it happening again making her feel dreadful. Eris knew Miss Thornhill was very conflicted about the kiss, probably beating herself up and weary of the consequences. Eris wanted nothing more than to talk to her one on one; to reassure her that she wouldn't tell anybody, to tell her how she couldn't stop thinking about it, couldn't stop thinking about her; and maybe to make plans of running away together. Surprisingly, Eris knew she was only half joking with the last one.
