"Can't you hear them?"

The first time it happened you thought you were simply dreaming; A habit you were very aware you did whether you were awake or not.

But as the words left your lips and your older sister looked at you as if you were pulling a bad joke, a sudden sinking feeling told you that maybe it wasn't a dream.

"A ghost story? Really?", your sister said then, a bit dismissively as she slowly shook her head. "We're not small girls anymore, you know. I'm not scared of your silly made up stories anymore, and especially not tonight of all nights."

She stared at you then, half sternly and half lovingly. A gaze you were very familiar, and one you understood as "Don't cause any trouble, please."

Tonight was her debut ball, after all. Everyone would see her as a Lady now. No more a yound, timid girl. She would be eligible for marriage and those interested could openly court her now. Soon, she'd be too busy with her life as a freshly brought up Lady to be able to spend time with you, so the two of you thought of doing one another's final touches before the ball actually began, a final act of bondship.

You didn't want it to end with her thinking you were trying to play a lame joke on her, but pressing the other matter at hand seemed even worst.

So, to save your beloved sister's final night with you, you feigned a sheepish smile and pursed your lips playfully.

"I just wanted one last moment of your cowardice, sister." You told her,and though it wasn't the actual truth, the words you spoke were as true as the pain you had when she looked at you as if holding back tears before she gently pulled you into an embrace, one you accepted all too eagerly.

"I'm going to miss you." You heard her say.

"Me too." You replied.

The second time was when you were left alone to finish up your studies in the library.

It's been three months since your sister left to live at your family's main house in town, and you've been left alone a lot now. Be it by the servants or your tutors. Even your parents spent more time away to assist your sister.

And as if knowing the isolation you were in, the voices of the boys appeared more often now. Sometimes while you were asleep too; You'd awake to soft murmurs that grow into sweet melodies the more you strain your ears to listen to them. You mistook it for one at first but as you made yourself more aware of its presence, you soon came to a realization that there were multiple voices, and they were singing.

"Am I going crazy?" You thought to yourself when reality struck you that only you could hear them. Even when the servants were busy with their duties and your tutors drilled out their lectures, no one else seemed to have reacted when the voices came bouncing off the manor's walls ever so softly. Only you lifted your head from your almost asleep-state during lessons, only you went quietly searching for the source of it during your idle strolls.

So, were you truly mad? Or were the voices only making their song known to you?

"I am crazy." You breathed out to yourself one night when you found yourself walking down the manor's corridors in complete darkness and barefoot too.

"Moon." The word echo in your mind almost like your own thought, and it was that one word alone which stirred you from your sleep that night.

But it wasn't a simple thought nor a sudden restless episode.

It was them. The singing voices.
You were sure of it, and with that determination alone, you kicked off the layers of silk and cotton off of you and got out of bed to find whoever it was calling out to you in the dead of night.
