The door swung open, revealing yourself. You were currently stuffing the croissant and hoped nobody was there to see it. For once, luck was in your favour. As you gulped it down, you walked over to the employee changing room to put your apron on.

You were a server, and the job itself wasn’t that bad. Most people who came here were young adults such as yourself or old couples who came to relax and have a cup of coffee. What made it terrible was your manager and co-workers. Whenever your manager was here, which was rare, they’d just sit in their office and drink wine. They didn’t even give proper orders and you didn’t even know their name.

It didn’t matter though, as there was just one coworker of yours who decided they were going to be the boss. Dorothy, a middle aged grumpy old woman who was only here as her husband insisted she got a job. She had 3 kids and whenever she told people to do things, she did it with a fiery attitude. If you didn’t do as told, you’d probably get screamed at for being a ‘disobedient rat’, and that caused a lot of ear damage.

The worst thing was, you guys always shared shifts, so you’d always have to see her grumpy face and hear her annoying complaints. It was pretty annoying that she’d act like she owned the place and was in charge, when in reality she had the same rank as you and pretty much everyone else.

As you left the employee changing rooms, you saw the other server, and Dorothy, who was actually shouting at the other server. From what you had heard, the other server was being too slow in taking customers orders. The very few people in the cafe at the moment had switched their attention to the current situation.

The other server clearly wasn’t listening, and when Dorothy finally shut up, they just tsked and walked to the kitchen. Yikes. And that’s when Dorothy noticed you. Great. She just gave you an indescribable look, before going to the kitchen as well.

You heard someone say “Waiter!”, which caused you to turn your attention to whoever it was and walk over. You smiled when realising who it was. It was Arthur, and old man who used to be a stranger. He was a regular and started coming here about the same time you started working here.

Usually, you weren’t one for talking to strangers, but he was so kind and gentle. “Hello Arthur, it’s nice seeing you again.” He gave you his usual smile, which you could tell was genuine and just wholesome.

“You too, pumpkin. Is there a chance I could order?” You laughed, and got your notebook out as well as your pen and you prepared to write down. “What are you thinking of ordering today?”

“Finally.” You took a nice sigh of relief; You had ended your shift. Dorothy-being the lazy woman she was- was snoozing on the desk despite it being only 4pm. A few customers had complained about how disgusting it was that her drool was getting all over a desk which was touched by other people, and you laughed with them.

Right now, the cafe was quite empty and you looked over to Dorothy. She was still sound asleep, and you saw a few coworkers slowly creep up behind her and begin to take pictures of her. You just turned around, and decided to ignore whatever was happening as all you wanted to do was get home and binge a new series which had just come out.

Leaving, the door opened with a soft ding of a bell and the sun’s rays settled on your face. You lifted up your wrist watch, to look at the time. “Huh…It's the 4th of April already. Cool.” You were just about to continue on when you heard…something concerning.

Voices screaming and screeching from behind you as well as…weird laughing? The voice sounded autotune, almost like all of the modern singers in your time. You looked back confused, and you saw a horrific sight. Blood and dust was splattered everywhere across the town as an almost godly figure hovered upward with some blue silks stretching outward to each and every crevice of the town.

You watched as buildings were crushed to rubble and the figure laughed and looked over to anything in sight. It seems you had noticed as their grin widened and they began to get closer. Terrified, you began to run. You were starting to regret your decision to barely do any exercise and only binge on junk as you were getting pretty tired already.

Once again, your head turned backwards to the horrifying person who was laughing like an evil maniac. They were extremely close to you, and their hand reached out toward you. You were so focused on what was behind you, you didn’t notice the upcoming hole in front of you. Suddenly, you began falling through an endless hole, and you could feel liquid. However, this sensation soon left your body as you blacked out.
