"heaven help a fool who falls in love."

I woke up early that morning. I usually sleep in on Monday's but I wanted to get to school early to avoid Pony.
My grand plan to stop this crush from happening was to avoid Ponyboy for a couple of days. I figure that time away from him will work.
"Good morning mom!" I chirped.
"You're unusually happy for a Monday morning."
I grabbed a bowl and a box of cereal. "What do you mean?" My mom just shook her head and started on her makeup. As I poured the milk I continued to plan out my week, happy with my plan so far.
"I have to get to work early today so I can't drop you off today, but Darry offered to take you with the others today." She said.
I practically choked on my cereal at the thought.
"Mom, can't you drop me off early too?" I begged.
"Why? Just go with the others." She closed her tube of lipstick and ran her fingers through her hair. The whole point of waking up early was to avoid going to school with Pony. The day had hardly begun and my plan was already failing.
"Now come on, you love it when Darry drives you to school." She added. "I know but I'd rather spend time with you." I whined. She ignored me and grabbed her coat.
"We can spend time in the evening." She promised. "Now hurry up to their house before they leave you."
I groaned as she left the house. I thought about it for a second and started the short walk over to Pony's house.
Once I reached their front porch I saw our usual group. It was me, Pony, Johnny, Two-Bit, Steve, Lonnie, Annie, and surprisingly, Jessica.
I greeted everyone before sitting down next to my cousin.
"Jess, I thought you said you weren't ever coming back to school last Friday." I chuckled.
"Diane told me it would be beneficial to my future if I came back," Jessica told me with an eye roll.
"That and she's buying me lunch all week."
"Anyways..."Annie started, "Johnny. Your 𝟣𝟩th birthday's coming up." She smiled.
"That's right!" I squealed, "What presents do you want. And would you rather have Vanilla or Chocolate cake?"
"Oh, I don't know." Johnny shrugged. "Just having everyone together is enough."
"Well Val and I already have a couple of ideas." Pony smiled. He looked up at me and mouthed something at me. When I didn't understand what he was saying he walked over to me and whispered in my ear, "You. Me. Party planning after school."
