It was a Thursday afternoon and I was waiting in the gym for freshman tryouts to start. Since I was a sophomore I had to help out with tryouts along with my teammates.

I wanted nothing more than to sink into bed and fall asleep after a long day.

As we started conditioning my mind drifted to Pony as it always does now apparently. Last night he came over to 'finalize the plan for Johnny's party' but we really just talked the entire time.

At one point in time Pony had rested his head on my shoulder and nodded off. It was nice to see him so peaceful and relaxed. I also noticed how long his eyelashes were, which I was majorly jealous of.

I was really hoping for the sake of our friendship that my crush would last for a week and a week only.

And no matter what I couldn't tell Pony about any of it. If I let it slip out I don't think I would ever forgive myself for ruining my friendship with Ponyboy.

But the thing no one tells you about liking your best friend is that once you catch feelings the friendships already ruined.

By the time tryouts ended I was already fantasizing about what I would do when I got home. I was planning on grabbing the cookies Darry brought by yesterday and snack on them while watching a movie—most likely a romance.

I was about 𝟧 minutes from my house when I passed by the Curtis house.

I hadn't seen the gang since Monday so I decided to drop by. The cookies and romance movies could wait a little longer.

"Dally!" Annie yelled, running past me and straight at Dally. He was holding her favorite tube of lipstick above his head.

I was a little surprised to see Dally actually smiling as Annie jumped up and down, trying to snatch it from his hands.

I guess Steve was actually right about something for once—opposites do attract.

Apart from that most of the gang was gone except for Johnny, Delancy, and Two-Bit.

"Hey guys." I walked over to the those who were actually there. Johnny scooted over to make room on the couch.

"Hey Val," Two-Bit smiled, with a swig of his beer, then returned his attention back to the TV. "So, where's everyone else?" I asked.

"Well Darry's still at work, Lonnie's working late at the paper, Steve and Soda are on a double date, and Pony's also on a date." Delancy replied.

My mouth suddenly went dry. I thought I misheard Delancy because there was no way Pony was on a date. I definitely would've known.
