"𝗍𝗐𝗈 𝗄𝗂𝖽𝗌 𝗐𝗂𝗍𝗁 𝗍𝗁𝖾𝗂𝗋 𝗁𝖾𝖺𝗋𝗍𝗌 𝗈𝗇 𝖿𝗂𝗋𝖾, 𝗐𝗁𝗈'𝗌 𝗀𝗈𝗇𝗇𝖺 𝗌𝖺𝗏𝖾 𝗎𝗌 𝗇𝗈𝗐"

𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞'𝐬 𝐩.𝐨.𝐯

After having my butt kicked in practice all week I was eternally thankful for the weekend.

I was playing card games with Steve and Two-Bit to pass the time and win some money for a candy bar.

Steve had slammed the table once again. "That's the fifth time you've won in a row!" Steve grumbled as he handed me a dollar. "She's cheating, I'm telling ya!" Two-Bit exclaimed, but judging by his excitement I could tell he wasn't actually mad—not like Steve was.

The house was kind of quiet which was pretty unusual for a Saturday morning.

We played a couple more rounds before Steve got angry and quit. Just as I was getting ready to head to a corner store to spend my money there was a knock on the door.

     "Val could you get that?" Darry yelled.

     "Sure!" I yelled back. When I opened the door I saw Angie smoking a cigarette. Once she saw me she dropped the cigarette and put it out with her heel.

"Val!" She exclaimed.

"Uh, hi Angie." I said. "I know this is kind of weird but I have a favor to ask of you." She smiled, sitting down on the steps.

I was a little skeptical considering that we hardly talked but I closed the door quickly and sat down next to her.

"So, do you remember how I liked Jason Baker?" She started.

"Yeah, you used to talk about him 𝟤𝟦/𝟩." I chuckled.

Angie swatted my shoulder playfully then continued, "Well... he finally asked me out last night to the Nightly Double. I obviously said yes."

     "That's great!" I replied. "I know, but the thing is he accidentally invited his friend along and he doesn't wanna hurt his feelings by uninviting him," she added.

      "So I was wondering if you could come along and keep his friend distracted so he doesn't ruin our date. I would totally ask Kathy but she's not into blondes." Angie said.

     "How do you accidentally invite someone to a date?" I asked. Angie just shrugged and smiled, waiting for an answer.

"Oh, I don't know..." I replied. Going on a date with some random guy didn't seem like an ideal night.

"Please Val. I promise his friend is really cute and you'll have a great time." She begged. "I really like Jason and I really really want to go on this date."

I looked down at my hands then looked back over at Angie, "You really like him?"

"Yeah. I really do." She smiled.
