Sam's POV…
For the past two days after finding out about Ari's mom's failing heart, I've been in a state of shock and disbelief. Today I sat at my desk outside my boss's office, Mr. Ren Sato racking my brain trying to come up with a plan to help Ari and Lexi come up with the money to help pay for their mom's Surgery. The loud ringing of the phone on my desk interrupted my thought just as a plan began to formulate in my head.
“Hello, this is Samantha Davenport, the secretary of Mr. Ren Sato,” I said into the phone without looking at the ID.
“Ms. Davenport, come into my office for a minute and bring with you the files I had you look over yesterday?” Mr. Sato says into the receiver.
“I'll be right there, Sir,” I replied, grabbing the files out of the locked safe under my desk. Mr. Sato motioned for me to have a seat on one of the chairs positioned in front of his desk while he talked on his cell phone to someone.
“Yes, it's true that Hina and I are in the process of looking for a surrogate to help us achieve our goal of starting a family." I heard Mr.Sato say to someone on the phone when I entered the room. "I can't talk about it with you right now.” He abruptly blurts out after I take a seat in the chair across from him. “I'm sorry that you had to hear my personal business.” He apologized to me once the call ended.
“It's okay, Sir,” I replied, with a plan forming in my head on how Ari can get enough money to help Ari pay for her mom's medical expenses.
“Ms. Davenport, I called you into my office because I need to brief you on a meeting you'll be attending this afternoon with me at Koffee & Kupcake Kafé.”
“Yes, Sir,” I replied, picking up the large yellow notepad and black gel ink pen off the stack of files I sat on top of his desk.
“Today we will be meeting a few female clients whose ages will range from twenty-one to twenty-nine. What I need you to do is record their name, address, phone number, family history, level of education, and any major criminal records. I need you to also write down their medical health conditions in the past and the present, their religious beliefs, likes, and dislikes.” I wanted to ask Mr. Sato why he needed the answers to these women's personal business, but I didn't want to lose my job for information I would learn the answer to soon enough.
“Is there anything else that I need to record or be on the lookout for, Mr. Sato?”
“I don't think so, but if I think of anything else, I'll let you know before we leave the office.”
“What time is the meeting, sir?” I asked, jointing down everything he said on my notepad.
“At two-fifteen, but we'll leave the office at a quarter to two.”
I walked out of his office, thinking to myself what in the heck these meetings will be about? I knew nothing about Mr. Sato having any meetings today. Not being able to recall him having any scheduled meetings with three women today had me feeling a bit confused and stressed out. After not seeing a meeting marked on the work planner in the top drawer of my desk, I mumbled to myself, “this must be one of those spur-of-the-moment meetings.” These occurrences were something I've become accustomed to dealing with since I began working for Mr. Sato. Most of his demanding, hard-to-please clients regularly requested unscheduled meetings without my knowledge.
