Tris pov
I sit in a hallway, not to sure where, and just try to clear my mind. I have lived in the Dauntless compound for a little over 2 years now, and I still haven't explored every hallway. It is so huge and mysterious. I love it here, and I wouldn't want it to be any other way.
I start to think about how the initiates must feel. Living in a place- barley even living, just kind of trying to belong- for about a week and having one of your friends lose a fricken eye. Like honestly, if I was a initiate during this- I don't know if I could continue. I might have dropped out.
I am still thinking about this as I hear footsteps and whooping. What's happening?
"Oh, hey guys, it's T-Six," Uriah says.
"What are you guys doing?" I ask him.
"Um, Zeke just said a 'initiation ritual'. I'm not sure what it is, but it sounds fun." Uriah says with a smile. I laugh and stand up.
"Well I never had this 'ritual' so I guess I have to come." I say pulling Uriah with me, because the rest of the group is already leaving. "And thanks for remembering not to say my name,"
"No problem, Six. Now let's go catch up to Mar and Lynn." Uriah says.
"Is Four coming along?" I ask, trying to be casual, but I don't think Uriah would understand if I was being completely obvious.
"No," he answers easily. I have a sinking feeling in my stomach, but I ignore it. I am about to ask if he knows why, but he answers for me, "he says something about wanting time alone. But I think he is scared of something, but I'm not sure what."
The sinking feeling in my stomach becomes more pronounced. He's not scared of me, Is he? I hope not. I will find out soon, I guess.
I am so lost in thought about that I am about to walk off the building as Shaunna pulls me back laughing.
"What...exactly...do you..think..you are... Doing?" She gets out through fits of laughter.
"I was just thinking about something?" I answer kind of as a question. She gives me a look and then we both laugh. "So what are we actually doing here?" I ask, genuinely wanting to know.
"Well obviously we never did this during initiation, but usually the Dauntless members take some initiates or new members to the Zip Line-" she starts, but she is cut off by a loud whistle.
"The trains here!" Someone yells, all I can think is no, duh!
"You don't have to be rude, Six. And we are all headed for the third car." Shaunna says through a laugh as she starts to jog beside the track.
"I didn't mean to say that out loud, but 1) we are in Dauntless, that gives me permission to be rude and 2) well, obviously there was a train, you don't have to announce it!" I say, running ahead of Shaunna and the train comes zooming past me. I count the cars and grab the handle on the third card. I pull my self in with one swift motion. I can't stop thinking about what I used to look like when I first got here. I probably looked like a sack of potatoes. I smile at my self, I'm awesome! I also like my newfound self confidence.
"I like your newfound self confidence too," Zeke says beside me. I realize that I am talking out loud again. "I need to stop doing that, don't I?" I say.
"Yes, yes you do," Zeke answers flashing me a smile. "I think your awesome, and you did look like a sack of potatoes. It made me laugh." I punch him lightly at his words but smile.
"I need to go find Shaunna so see you latter." I say to him. I know he is not listing because he already has Uriah in a head lock and is giving him a nuggie. "Don't kill Uri,"
