"What dose it mean?"

Tobias pov

After Six slammed the door in my face I practically run to the tattoo parlour.

There aren't many people out in the middle of the day, most people have jobs, at school, or are still sleeping. I know it is after midday, but That doesn't bother anyone here in Dauntless. This is one of the reasons I want so bad to be a member here. Everyone doesn't have a care in the world and are free. I want to be like this- but I might not even get to the end of stage two.

"Hello, Four," Tori says, snapping me from my thoughts. She looks up at me face and must realize how urgent this is. "Let's go to the back." She says quietly, standing up.

I follow her back to her office like space.

"So, how are you doing in initiation?" Tori asks me with concern.

"Um... Very well. A little to well if you know what I mean." I say looking at the floor.

"Ah."

"Please help me understand," I say looking at her right in the face. "What dose it mean to be..." I hesitate I know what I want to say. 'What dose it mean to be divergent' but I kind of know what it means, but not exactly. I also know that I shouldn't say Divergent here. Even in this safe-ish place. "Divergent" I decide to take a risk. "That's what I am, you know. And what dose it have to do with simulations, and how did people figure it out?" I ask a little angrily.

Tori sits up and crosses her arms. Her expression becomes graded.

"Yes, I knew you were Divergent. Six is a good friend of mine and she mentioned you. Before you say something about your privacy, she only mentioned it because she cares." She pauses, swallowing and then starting again.

"Among other things, you... You are someone who is aware," she starts, looking me strait in the face. I am confused until she starts again. "When you, they, are in a simulation you know what you are experiencing is not real, someone who can then manipulate the simulation or even shut it down." I nod along to her words. I finally understand- a little bit at least- what I am. I also start to form questions in my mind such as: 'are people supposed to know there awake in these simulations?' Or statements like: 'I thought everyone was supposed to be awake.' Or 'oh that's how Six knew I was Divergent.' But Tori starts again and all thoughts blow from my mind. "And also someone who, because you are also Dauntless... Tends to die." She finishes grimly.

A weight settles in my chest. I had a feeling she was going to say that, but it came way to fast. Tension builds up inside of me until it is to much to handle. I need to scream or cry or...

I let out a laugh that I wouldn't recognize if I was someone else. It was harsh and mechanical and I never want to hear it again. it dies soon after it leaves my mouth, but I say, "so that's it? I'm just going to die, then?"

She shakes her head but says, "not necessarily, the Dauntless leaders don't know about you yet. You didn't show signs of Divergence in your aptitude test, and I'm guessing Six would delete your footage. She is a nice girl and..." She pauses, thinking about what she is going to say. "I think she has takin a liking to you. Well she damn well cares about you so..." She smiles, but covers it up immediately. "Sorry this is not a laughing matter. Don't make any mistakes- if they discover you, the will kill you."

I stare at her in silence. I don't doubt her, leaders can be insane- have different personalities. Just like my Father did- sorry, dose.

I'm about to stand up to go, but Tori grabs my hands, forcing me to stay where I am and to look into her eyes. "Think about this," she says. "These people taught you how to use a gun. How to use a knife. How to fight. You think they are above hurting you? Killing you?" She releases my hands and walks out, but before she goes she turns around with a fake smile plastered to her face and says quite loudly, "we will restart your tattoo session after initiation," and with that, she closes the curtain, leaving me alone, in her closed off sector of the tattoo parlour, with my thoughts.

I'm so sorry for not updating sooner, and for the short chapter.
