Chapter 4, 'Our thing'

Maudie's POV
9:46 am

Ava and I had a great time discussing, answering the activity sheets together, eating, and drinking, but she had plans going on later that day, so I insisted that I should leave for her to get ready for her other plans. She told me that it doesn't take her that long to get ready, I absolutely doubted it. Now I'm waving her goodbye, so she can get ready, and me to get back home.

'Hi, Nightingale, Ava.' Someone greeted.

'Oh, hi Ezra!' Ava greeted back. Those words made me look back to see him.

'Hello, Falcon.' I said after Ava.

'It's quite funny how you two still use your code names.' Ava pointed out.

'Yeah, I guess, it's kind of our thing now.' Ezra replied, walking closer to me. I gave a light chuckle.

'Well, you two's thing is very cute. It's kind of a couple thing- Not that I'm saying that you two are a couple, but... You know what, nevermind. Goodbye!' Ava sped up her talking after saying the couple bit. Me and Ezra just looked at eachother nodding our heads and waving bye to Ava.

There was an aura of awkwardness around us that we both noticed and tried to shrug off, but couldn't. We were just standing there in the rain, I didn't get wet, the same went for Ezra also. We were standing there for 5 minutes avoiding eye contact until,

'How long are you two gonna be standing there? You two will get soaked from the rain' Ava shouted from her bedroom window. We both got startled and looked up.

'I'll just get going now.' I said heading to random direction I was facing.

'Me too.' He added, following closely behind me. 'Where will you be going?'

'Perhaps the office. I don't have any more plans today. My dad also got called in by the hospital.' I replied. 'Anyway, why are you here?'

Ezra's POV

'I don't know. I got sore after staying awake in my bed too long, didn't know what to do, decided I'd go for a quick walk, then I saw you exchanging valedictions' with Ava.' I explained.

'Do you have any plans this weekend?' Maudie asked.

'Well, mum excused herself from work to take care of Poppy. She's also taking her to the clinic later because my nanna told my parents to. So no, unless if we're talking about school' I said.

'Are you done with the essay and project?' She asked.

'Yeah, but I'm doing something else.' I answered.

'What is it that you are doing? Maybe I could help.' She curiously asked.

'It's nothing that difficult, really. And it is just some work for extra credit.' I told her.

'You really care so much about your grades. Unlike Kyle.' Maudie and I both laughed.

10:01 am

Once we reached my place, we separated ways, with me going to my house, and Maudie going to the granny flat.
