KAI put his nose to the air, he sniffed.

It smelled like mildew and blood.

Blood and mildew.

I'm just glad we can be together before you die, my dear.

He frowned.

Don't you think I'm better company than that retched cyborg girl and her band of misfits?

A screen flickered on in the darkness. It was black and white, and had a group of about five people splitting into two groups, traveling offscreen.

You know, it is quite adorable that you think your feelings for her might actually be real.

That was too much.

"She's never manipulated me!" Kai's yell croaked out into the darkness. "She told me herself!"

And you don't think she was manipulating you then?

Kai was at a loss for anything to say. He just knew Cinder would never lie to him, and he knew Levana would never understand.

"You'll see. Earth will triumph over Luna and you will be crushed!" Kai thrashed in his mental shackles. He heard Levana laugh sharply.

And what are you doing now? You're rolling around in your own filth, just waiting to die. Now, if you will excuse me, I have a cyborg to kill. The idiot's figured out about her hand and leg. You see, I only manipulated her and anyone who happened to look at her into thinking her cyborg limbs were gone. I was finally able to trick her, because she was so weak...

The voice of Levana trailed off, and Kai gasped for breath as if he'd been holding it for the entire time she had lingered. The darkness around him faded like all the times before, revealing his bedroom. It was only dim here, with the drapes on his windows closed and the door shut tight. Torches lined the wall. Not electronic ones, made for show, but actual, real fire torches. They had intrigued Kai the first day he was here, and he had taken a bit of enjoyment in ogling them. Now he couldn't.

He couldn't walk.

He fumbled with the covers of his bed, longing to be rid of this place. But he could do nothing but roll around and hope against hope that someone would find him. He wished more than anything that he would be able to get out of here, but he couldn't. With every slight movement, pain shot down his limbs, and besides.

He couldn't walk.

Now his only chance was to wait for Cinder.

Cinder.

He had almost forgotten about Cinder. No, not forgotten. She was always at the back of his mind, scratching like a hungry dog at a door. In fact, she plagued his mind at the worst of times. It was all he could really think about. What else was there, other than the slaughter of his fellow Earthens, or Levana. He couldn't think of that, that would only drive him mad.

Cinder was the only thing that kept him sane.
