14. the moment of truth

"i forgot about my hoe"

Elena sat beside Miguel, stretching while Kreese stood in front of them talking to Adina, Aisha and Hawk. "How many warlords were there?" Hawk asked curiously while Elena stretched her legs.

"Do you keep track of every single ant you stomp out?" The trio gasped in shock and awe, "Badass." Hawk breathed out, nodding his head to show his admiration for Kreese.

"They were outgunned, we were outmanned. I tell you Rwanda was no joke." Kreese continued while Miguel stood up, holding out his hand for Elena. "Don't you mean Somalia?"

Miguel asked as Hawk and Adina shared a look, "Mogadishu is in Somalia, Rwanda's a whole different country." Kreese sent Miguel a dirty look to which Elena pulled Miguel behind her.

"Of course, Somalia." He laughed slightly, "I've spent so much time in the sandbox, it all kinda bleeds together, you know." Elena nodded her head along as Kreese looked over at her when Johnny came from the back room.

"Listen up! I see we've got some new recruits. Everybody fall in! In neat rows and lines. Time to see what you're made of." He spoke before walking through the rows of students. "Straighten up ginger twins."

"Their twins?" Adina whispered over to Elena, who shrugged her shoulders, "No clue." She heard more shuffling before Johnny sighed, "Sorry, parents can't stay for class. It's an insurance thing."

"I'm not a dad. I.. I am here to kick some ass, sir!" Elena looked back slightly confused as to what was happening, "Do I know you from somewhere?"

Johnny asked as the larger male looked back at the mirror, "Oh, yeah, the, um.. I sold you the mirror. We kind of bonded, talked about rock bands."

Johnny nodded his head to cut off the man, "Look, you're a little old. This is a class for teenagers." The two began to whisper so Elena turned back around, "We'll consider this a trial run. I thought my last group of recruits was pathetic."

Elena held back her offended gasp, "But if you do what I tell you to do, you'll at least have a chance at becoming a fighter. But to do that, you've got to fight. So which one of you has the balls to take on the champ?"

Elena smiled over at Miguel as no one said a word, Elena went to raise her hand but Miguel shot her a look, "I'm not fighting you." Elena pouted but didn't raise her hand. "I'll take him on." Everyone turned to the back where a girl, their age with brown and blonde petrified hair stood.

"Oh, you will, huh?" Johnny asked with a smirk, "I saw your little demo at Valley Fest. You guys can put on a show. Can you actually fight?" Elena looked at the girl interestingly as did Adina, who obviously checked the girl out.
