And Then There Were Two

I woke up with a sharp pain in the side of my head.

The lights above me shone brightly into my unopened eyes and the air smelled sterile.

I slowly opened my eyes to see my mom and Bella sitting in a hospital room with me.

Bella was dressed in an ugly white and blue checkered hospital gown and my mom in jeans and a pink top, her normal travel clothes.

"Good morning, sleepy head," Bella said, turning her face away from my mom and towards me. "You know, you really have to stop hitting your head when you pass out." She smiled weakly but playfully.

"How long have I been out for?"

"Close to 18 hours I think. The doctors put you on some heavy medication that's supposed to make you extremely tired."

I just stared at the girl. She looked pale and dead on the inside, her hair matted and messy.

"Honey, the police need to talk to you when you feel up for it," my mom said.

"Miss. Anderson, she just woke up. Give her a few minutes!" Bella protested in my defense.

"I know Bella, but we just need to get out of here as soon as we can." My mom's tone had an urgency I'd never heard before. "You know it's crazy how every single time I'm away, something happens. I'm pretty sure it's been basically every single time. You guys plan this shit? Purposely wait for me to leave and get into trouble?"

Ignoring her, I asked, "Are they dead? Is that why we need to leave?" I looked my mom directly in the eyes.

She stared at me, awestruck, confused, and concerned. "Uh, Ivy, let's talk about this later."

"No mom, were they dead?" My voice raised quickly in anger. "I deserve to know!"

"Yes." Bella blurted out. "Mia died in surgery, and Noah died on the scene."

That was right, my brother's dead.

Yet another one of my family members dead because of mental health issues.

I looked from my mom to Bella.

How could my mom stand to sit next to the person who killed her son?

"Bella, you killed my brother..."

My mom's concerned look deepened, "Ivy!"

"She killed Noah, mom."

"She saved your life, Ivy. Noah had been getting himself into trouble lately, and I knew he would get hurt at one point. While it pains me that he's dead, Ivy, he wasn't the person you thought he was. The police found plans of how he wanted to kill you and all of your friends."

"So he's the person who's been..."

"Uh, Ivy, let's talk about this later."

I stared at her. "Where's Vincent?"

I watched Bella exchange worried glances with my mom. "He's at the police station..." Bella's words trail off slowly.

Our conversation was cut short by a doctor and two police officers entering the room. "Hi, Ivy, I'm glad to see you awake. How were you feeling?" the doctor asked.

Not sure what to say, I just stared at him.

"Ms. Anderson?"

I lightly shook my head to clear the brain fog and sighed heavily. "I feel fine. My head hurts a little, but I feel fine."

"Do you feel well enough to talk to these officers?"

"Uh-h sure..."

"Okay perfect, once you are done with them, we'll get you and Bella discharged."

The doctor motioned for my mom and Bella to follow him out the door.

"Hi Ms. Anderson." A short woman with ocean blue eyes approached me. "Can I ask you a couple questions?"

"Y-yes, that's fine."

"I know you and Bella have been through a lot these past couple of weeks. I just want to know what your thoughts on everything are?"

"Uh-h I-I don't know."

"Okay well let's start with, who do you think the killer could be?"

"I don't think it's just one person."

"Why's that?"

"Well..." I stopped myself short.

Do I tell them about Cody and Dustin?

Will that get me killed?

"Ivy?"

"Huh? Uh, sorry. Well, clearly, the 'robbery gone wrong' killers were different from Annalise and Lucas's killers. Mia and Zoe's killers were also different. So with that in mind, the killer can't just be one person."

"Who do you think was the mastermind behind all of these killings then?

"My brother...Noah." I thought about saying Vincent, but after watching him help Mia and almost took a bullet for her I don't know. I don't know what I think.

"What about Vincent Jones?"

"I don't know. He tried stabbing Bella and seemed to have lost his cool at the party...but he kept telling me he was being framed. Also, the way he tried to save Mia and almost took a bullet for her? I don't know."

"Okay, what about Masen Deville?"

"There's zero way Masen was part of this, absolutely zero way."

"Did you know that after Bella was stabbed, Masen went off the grid?"

I scoffed, almost laughed. "Well if he did...he's probably dead somewhere...not alive."

Twenty minutes went by as the officers continued to grill me with questions. Once done, they invited my mom and Bella back into the room.

"So how'd it go?" Bella asked, pushing herself in her wheelchair over to my bedside.

"I don't know Bells...I'm so confused and just don't know what to think anymore."

The door to my room opened, and the doctor came back in. "You're all good to go, Ms. Anderson!"

I looked over at Bella, who was now dressed in a clean pair of clothes. "Come on, let's get you changed so we can go get some food."
