And Then There Were Five

After my friends dragged me out of AJ's house, we ended up back at mine since my mom was away again and didn't want me out of the house. She threatened to call the cops on me if she saw my location at anything other than school or home.

Why did she start caring now?

The whole car ride home, Masen was freaking out.

Because his backyard was a crime scene for a while, he had been staying with Vincent, AJ, and Dylan.

All he kept saying on the ride home was, "I could have stopped it, if only I had stayed with one of them last night, I could have stopped it!"

I felt like I was going crazy.

You know the saying, "and then there were five"? That's how I felt. There was no way we weren't being picked off.

"We need to figure out who's next." Masen stated, looking frantic, his once confident demeanor now completely gone.

"I don't think there was a pattern, Masen," I responded.

"We know that Annalise and Lucas were hooking up, so that's why they were killed together--or so we assume. Dylan and AJ were killed because they killed Zoe..." Vincent started.

I cut him short. "AJ's mom told me that no one came in or out of the house today...it was just the boys."

"So you think they actually killed themselves?" Mia blurted angrily.

"I'm not sure, but these people sure look like they know what they were doing, so maybe they got to them some other way?" I countered.

"What do you mean 'people'?" Masen asked, shifting closer to all of us.

"Well, assuming the beach house "robbery" was connected with this, there was more than one killer. It seems to be a group or something."

"I think we should leave...we need to get out of Shadow Hill," Masen pushed urgently.

"Leave? And go where Masen?" Vincent hit back.

"I don't know man... anywhere... anywhere that isn't here!"

"I think leaving was a bad idea, Masen..."

"Well, Vincent, it looks like staying was only going to get us killed!"

"We were in the middle of the school year...it's our last year, man. Plus, if we leave, we'll look guilty!"

"Well, what do you suppose then, Vincent? I'd rather have to redo my senior year then die here."

"Boys! Boys, stop fighting!" Bella yelled, harshly lashing out. She had a frown plastered on her tiny face.

I'd never heard the girl yell so loudly.

"We need to do something, Bella...staying here is going to get us killed," Masen argued.

"Masen, I understand that, but we need to think this through."

As if on cue, all of our phones rang with a text from some random number.

From what it looked like, this person put us all in a group chat.

Random number: There will be a party tomorrow at May Nelson's house. I want the remaining five of you to go to this party. This was not a request...this was mandatory. You will drink, get as drunk as you can, and then you guys can meet me. I will be watching you, and if I notice any of you not drinking or not drunk enough, you will die. Tell the police, and all of your parents and siblings will die. Think I'm lying?

The first thing I noticed was that neither of Vincent's parents were in the attached videos, and the second thing was Bella's sister.

"Bella, I thought your sister was dead?"

Bella immediately looked up at me with trepidation in her eyes and answered, "So did I..." She zoomed in on the video of her sister, genuinely confused.

"Didn't you say Chloe died in the car accident?" Mia asked.

"Yeah, Mia, I did...that's what my dad told me."

"Well she's clearly alive and well, Bells," Masen commented.

"Thanks for the clarity, Masen..." She sarcastically responded, glaring at him. "That kind of scares me alot though. If this person was able to find my sister, who mind you, I thought was dead..."

"He'll have no trouble hurting us..." I finished, my voice trailing off.
