"Toby you need to wake up! Your suspension is over you can go to school today!" Rita yelled as she banged on his door.

"Alright!" Toby yelled back rolling out of bed. He got himself ready and went down for some breakfast. That's a huge bonus with living with a chef,, they'll never let you leave hungry.

"So, you'll try to do good today right?" Toby shook his head. "No fights? No sleeping, no skipping, no arguing, no smoking-"

"Hey wait huh? No I can smoke." Toby said. "Uh uh good boys don't smoke" Rita said shaking her finger.

"Yeah well I'm a good boy in training. I'll just be a good guy that smokes yeah?"

"Just finish your plate and get to school on time Toby."

Toby ignored the shouts of "no running in the halls!" He'd gotten while he tried to make it to class on time.

He felt a bit embarrassed when he opened the classroom door only to see a few students sitting. And one student sitting in his seat surrounded by many people.

He looked around the room trying to find a new seating chart but found nothing. He approached the
Student in his seat.

"Hey man that's my spot" Toby said loud enough so that the person could hear him over the chatter.

Everyone looked his way except for the one in his seat. "You don't sit here." "This seat doesn't belong to you" "who are you?" "He got expelled right?" "What a joke"  everyone shouted his way.

He felt his fist tighten up. Not from the comments being made from the other students but by the one sitting in his seat. Ignoring him.

"Would you guys fuck off? I'm not even talking to you" Toby said forgetting his 'try to be good today. He didn't really care about that right now.

Some of the girls left the classroom and a few boys followed out of fear of a fight.

Toby was about to ask the boy again but then the teacher walked in. The boy in his seat finally turned around to look at him.

"I'm sorry for not responding but I just felt it was better to have a teacher present in case you didn't believe me. I'm new here and your seat had been empty so they just told me to take it. Sorry for the inconvenience." Said the boy smiling.

Toby was taken aback by the boy's response. He'd never been talked to so kindly. He'd also never admired someone's use of words and the tone of their voice. The puppy dog face this boy had really just pissed toby off though.

"Tobias is that you? Are you messing around over there? Please come up to my desk." The teacher called out.

The teacher told him the same story the boy told him about why he had no seat.

The teacher had asked the class if someone would go get an extra desk for Toby but no one volunteered .

"I can just get it-"

"I'll go get one Mr. Haven" said the boy in Toby's seat. "Very well, Toby and Brooks you two go get one."

Toby rolled his eyes and left the room without waiting for who ever this brooks is.

"Hey wait up! I don't think we were able to really be introduce, I'm brooks it's not actually my name but thats what people call me. I transferred here because of my fathers job and-"

"Man I don't need to know your whole back story."

"Oh sorry was I just babbling? I guess I tend to do that. Anyways how come you weren't at school for so long? I was beginning to believe you dropped."

"It's none of your business"

"That's true sorry for intruding. I hope we can get along in the future."

The rest of the time the boys walked in silence unless Brooks ran into one of his many friends. Which started to piss Toby off.

"Hey Brooks how are you doing?" "Going to the game later?" "Wait why are you hanging with that guy? You know he's bad news."

The two boys made it to the empty classroom scattered with old and broken desk.

"I'll look for one over here you take the other side."

Toby quickly grew bored of searching for a desk that didn't have a rusted leg or a broken chair.

He jumped onto the window ledge and opened the window. He lit a cigarette and blew the smoke out the window.

"Hey I think I found one! There's just a few pieces of gum under it but we can get those off-"

"Aren't you new here? Why are you so popular."

"Popular? I wouldn't say I'm popular. I just get along with people pretty easily."

"That's pretty annoying."

"Excuse me?"

"I said that's pretty annoying. Do you even think of those people as your friends? Or just random people you talk too."

"I think your taking it too far-"

"Am I though? Your just so nice and kind that people just flock to you. I bet that's how it's been your whole life. I mean who wouldn't want to hang out with someone like you. I bet you lend your so called friends notes and homework. They're just using you man. You need to wake up and stop being such a good person."

Toby thought for a moment. He's standing in a room dissing one of the most perfect students who probably doesn't know that he's the worst student this school has ever encountered.

Maybe he could get advice. Or at least use this guy's kindness to his advantage.

"Hey man I was um just joking about that. You see I'm just speaking for experience. Yeah people always ask to borrow my notes or when we go out they always ask me to pay. I just don't want you to end up like me." Toby said putting out his cigarette.

The boy stood in silence with a small frown that quickly turned into a smile revealing his puppy dog face.

"Okay thank you for looking out for me. I understand where you could be coming from but we should get back to class soon or the teacher will come looking."

"Your so right! Let's hurry back." He cringed at his own words.

As they walked back to class Toby tried to keep brooks talking which wasn't that hard, well at least for Brooks it wasn't.

Toby stared blankly at the other boy as he spoke about sports and the clubs he was in. Only nodding and "mhm" when he felt needed.
