Toby had had it.
He felt as though he'd snap any day now.
It's been nearly a month since Toby had processed with his plan. And he was so over it.
The two study together nearly every week and Toby had even gone to a few of Brooks's games. He was putting in way more effort than he intended.
Toby never wanted the two to grow any closer than just study buddies but he realized he liked hanging out with Brooks.
Oh no not because he liked him of course but because he was beginning to like the idea of him being someone like Brooks.
All the times he'd grown annoyed at brooks for being so perfect was because he was just jealous.
And with each day the two hung out together was one step closer for Toby to finally become popular.
-
"Tobias you got any plans for winter break?" Brooks asked.
"Oh shit that's coming up soon right? Um no I'm probably just going to do nothing. What about you?"
"Well me and the guys were planning on doing something..bad."
"Brooks doing something bad? I don't believe it."
"Ha shut up man. Anyways we were planning on having a small party.. well get together. There's going to be alcohol and stuff."
Toby held in a laugh. It was funny seeing what brooks viewed as bad. It's A party? cmon.
"But it'd be awesome if you came-"
"Nah man I don't think I should. The people you hangout with aren't super found of me."
"Tobias I want you to come. Screw those guys for not liking you! I mean what's their problem with you anyways."
'Trust me you don't wanna know.'
"If I change my mind I'll tell you alright"
And with that Toby left.
-
Toby's hand slightly trembled as he opened the door to an unfamiliar home. He was glad he was able to slip into the house unnoticed. He wore all black and kept his hood up just in case.
He quickly made his way to the kitchen to grab himself something to drink.
He swiped a bottle of vodka and went looking for Brooks. He didn't care about keeping up with his façade tonight.
He just wanted to get drunk.
He gave up after a while and found a corner and plopped down with his bottle.
"Excuse me?"
Toby looked up and saw a girl crouched infront of him.
"Sorry did I startle you? I apologize. Um I just had a question for you. Do you know where I could find Brooks? Ive seen you two hanging out at the library. I actually work next door at the bakery."
The girls words were starting to blend together and Toby couldn't really understand. He looked down at the now much lighter bottle in his hand.
"Er um whry yu wanna know? Yu like em or somethin?"
The girls eyes went wide.
"Oh me?! Of course not!"
"Yu can't have em."
"...what."
"I's said yu can't have him lady. I's need him.. for stuff"
"I don't understand. Are you saying that.. do you mean that in a weird way.."
"What no.. actually ya I am. Hes gay
So he wouldn't want yuh.""Oh.. oh my god! That's disgusting! You.. you shouldn't be here! Im telling the home owner! God that's gross!" The girl yelled as she stomped away.
Toby slumped back down in his corner.
Toby woke once again but this time he was being dragged by the hood on his jacket
"Hey.. hey! What the hell!" Toby chocked out.
A group of boys surrounded him as he lay on the ground outside.
"You think it's funny to say Brooks is a fag? Huh?!" A boy yelled kicking Toby in the chest.
"Wh..what are you talking about!" Toby yelled back. Usually he wouldn't feel so afraid in this kind of situation. But he was still super drunk and confused. Not to mention in pain. And out numbered.
A few of the boys began to kick at Toby while yelling slurs. Toby felt that air being knocked out of his lungs and the blood on his face burned as it poured into his eyes.
Toby felt himself drifting in and out of consciousness and just wish he'd pass out already.
He felt relief when the kicking and shouting stopped. And he fell into unconsciousness.
He came back to earth when a sharp pain stabbed his forehead and the burning smell of rubbing alcohol filled his nose.
He shot upwards but a large hand held him down.
"Whoa sorry about that. I tried cleaning the deepest wounds first while you were asleep. I thought maybe you wouldn't be able to feel it. Guess I was wrong.." Brooks said followed by an awkward laugh.
