Top Gun

I was bringing a glass of water to my father when I got the call. I set the glass down on the small coaster on the desk and pulled my phone out of my pocket to answer it. "Hello?" "Hi, is this Lt Elenore Kazansky?" The voice asked. "Yes it is, how may I help you?" I asked as sweetly as I could. " We want and selected you to come to Top Gun for a certain mission, this will count as your graduating so long as you complete the three weeks your here. You're one of the best in the game and we could use someone like you. We need ya here in three days. " Then he hung up. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard the rain clicking of keys. I walked over to the other side of the desk and read what my dad was saying. " Who was that? " " I have no idea but, they said I'm going to top gun. " I told him with a wide mile I my face. I saw him smile back at me. I knew that my parents met and fell in love there, and that made me smile. I doubted that I would fall in love there but I was still going to have the chance to make them even more proud.

My dad stood up and wrapped his arms around me. "I'm so proud." He told me. We had a sworn deal ever since I told him I was going to be a fighter pilot, that he couldn't sway my chances of going to Top Gun, no matter the good word he wanted to put in for me. After a very nice and long hug we slowly pulled away. "I need to go and tell mom." I realized. He smiled and nodded before letting me go all the way. I ran down the stairs to find her calling out to her. " Mom! You will never believe who just called me!" She turned to face me a little spooked. "What child? You can't scare me like that." She said laughing at the end. " I got a call asking me to go to Top Gun. " I said smiling whilst throwing my arms out. "Oh my God! Honey I'm so proud! What if you meet your Tom Kazansky!" She said with tears coming out of her eyes. I laughed and wrapped my arms around her. "When do you leave?" She asked after a minute or two. "They said that I have to be there in three days but I wanted to get there a day early. "

She nodded and squeezed my shoulders. " I know you're going to be the best, out of the best that is . " I smiled at my mom and hugged her again, it would take a couple hours to get there but it wouldn't hurt to better know the area. And the bars. "Best part about us living close is that you can just come home." My mom said hopefully. I smiled and shook my head. "No mom, I'll rent closer there. It'll be ok. I'm a big girl now." I said. She nodded and smiled. " I know, that's the part that scares me." I laughed and tapped her shoulder a couple of times. " I hope another girl made it. It really would suck to be the only girl there. " I nudged her shoulder knowing that she was the first and only girl to go when she went. She laughed and hit my shoulder, "go take a shower, shit-head. " I laughed loudly at that and shook my head. " You know I'm right." I yelled back when I was going to the stairs. I heard my mom laugh faintly at the kitchen and my dad watching me with a smile from the overhead railing. I laughed embaressedly and threw my head down. I checked my watch and widened my eyes, it was already 6 in the afternoon.

The next two days went by in a flash. I mostly spent it with my father, but I guess now days I spent almost all my time with him. I don't neglect my mom but thankfully she knows that me and him, are a lot closer since everything he's dealing with. I want to spend as much time with him as I can, even the finally of that thought shakes me to my core and I hate it, the thought, I hate the end thought. I knew it would happen eventually but, I didn't want it so soon. Most of that time we spend texting each other, even though we are in the same room, it makes him feel better. Talking doesn't hurt him for now but it is much harder. It also doesn't help that I look almost exactly like him, the only thing I got from her was some female anatomy. That's it. So on the day that I was leaving it was hard for me to say bye. I had done it before but my dad was in a lot better shape. "Text me all day, even if it's dumb stuff." I said with a sad smile. He slightly laughed and hugged me. I hugged him back and moved to my mom. She hugged me first and I felt tears fall on my shoulder. "Aw I know, but look at this, you may have been the first woman to go but I am going to be the youngest to go. " I said trying to crack a joke with her. I'm 23, the youngest person before me was 25.

She nodded and chuckled softly. " Go, your going to be late. " I nodded and told them that I loved them before getting in my car. Just a small black mustang nothing super special. I did have a few stickers on my dash though. There was an icecube, for my dad, a sheet with two holes cut out for eyes, a little sheet ghost for my mom, and for me was a small frosted flower, since a sticker of frost is hard to find. I tap my thumbs on the wheel before I start to even go anywhere. I take a deep breath and start to back out of the driveway, giving a small wave to my parents on the way out. It wasn't far from the hard deck, but this was my first time going to Top Gun and I had this dumb feeling that I was going to be the only new one here.
