*Veronica's POV*
I've never thought of myself as a light sleeper, and yet my so called family has told me many times how with only one shake of my body that I become fully awake. I would check where I was at and the time. This time was very different.
My eye lids were still heavy when they slowly opened and already having light shine right at it. I blinked a few times before I found out that I was able to move my arms and hands.
"Hey, hey. It's okay." Max came up and grazed my arm that I successfully moved.
"What happened?" I managed to say, feeling my dried out mouth.
"The werewolf cut deep into your leg that the blood made you faint, that's what Jake said at least." Max chuckled, trying to lift up the mood.
I attempted to move my legs and my feet. I did feel both legs, but only my right foot. The left one felt numb and had on a bandage unlike my right one still had my running shoe on.
"I can't feel it." I whined.
Max took a look and back to me. "Oh Jake said that it will feel like that. It supposed to relieve the pain. Are you in any pain?"
I sighed. "Thank god no. Um, what time is it?"
"5:42."
Damn! I wasted so much time! I groaned and positioned my arms to let me sit up. "Hey, hey. You need to rest."
"No what I need is to get back home."
"I doubt your family wouldn't notice for a couple of hours." I didn't feel the carpet that was on the ground, but felt harder and saw that I wasn't even on the ground, but on a doctor's examine table.
"How did this get here?!" I shout, from confusion and trying to sit up
"Oh Jake, spawned it in."
"He can do that?" I managed to swing my legs carefully down and did feel that my leg throbbing now.
Max nodded. "Yup, he can do many things as the guide. This table is only built in here though. It can't be anywhere else."
I sighed, using both hands to push my black wavy hair away from my face. "Does Jake know when my leg should heal?"
"Uh He said it should heal pretty soon. Not faster than other minor cuts. Your power helps your skin heal faster no matter how major the wound is."
"Yay." I said, sounding very sarcastic. In reality, I'm just tired.
"You doing okay?" Max asked, not just asking about my foot.
"I don't know." That is the first time I have ever said anything but, "Yeah" or "I'm fine." It felt weird saying it, but good in a sense. I really didn't know how I felt. Was I feeling overwhelmed? Sad? Happy? All of those emotions? I had no idea what to feel about what was going on in my life.
Max went from leaning against the grey and light green couch to coming forward and leaning against the doctor's examine table right next to me. "I know that being this Ultimate or I guess United, even at a young age is tough, and I can't read your mind, so I want you to know that you can rely on me."
"I do. And Jake too." I say.
Max shook his head. "Not in that way, Veronica." Knowing that struck that invisible wall, he keeps on hitting. It feels like it's crumbling down every time Max says something nice and sweet. I don't think I have ever heard anyone, even Camilla's family or my friends say those kind of things to me. I hope he is like that all the time.
Max out of nowhere puts his arm around me and said, "You know you can rely on me right?" I looked up to him, thinking that I looked surprised. I was, but went with it.
"Now I do." I leaned my head into him, following a kiss from Max on my head. I wish we could just be alone like this forever.
Soon enough once my foot was healed enough I portaled from the computer room to my bedroom which had to wake up Camila.
"What the-?!" She gasped and rushed to sit up as I struggled to find a comfortable spot on my to sit up even with my foot.
"Hi." I groaned.
"What happened?" She asks, eyes widened with shock, confusion, and even concern?
"That werewolf happened." I tried to keep my foot off the ground.
"You good? You need help?"
Camila took her blankets off and put one foot on the ground before I immediately denied it. "Nope, nope." I chuckled. "I'm all good." I was then when I crossed it on my right leg. I hate that I didn't bring Max. I was too scared that if he did help it would create suspicion, even if Camila wasn't awake.
"Uh was the werewolf the boys dogs? Or anyone's dogs for that matter?" God I hate how nosy she can be and that "helpful" attitude of her's was also not helping. I would love to tell her off and shout "Stop being so fake, bitch!" Okay, that was not what I expected to think.
Instead I simply said. "It was a dog at some pound, and it doesn't matter now, okay?" My breathing became heavy from me slowly telling her off. I've never felt okay doing that to anyone, surprising not to my family. Even if they deserve it.
She frowned with anger and insulted. "Okay jeez, don't be a drama queen." She started to pull her blankets over her, but asked. "Oh and are you going soon, or what?" Oh how I wish I can just use my powers on her to make her drop dead. She always ask that, like our room is not even for the both of us. Just for me to sleep in. I eventually did leave the room when I felt like my foot could handle pressure being pressed on it. Gladly I did have Max to talk to, unlike her, who never has had a real friend before or a partner.
When we all got back to school I alarmed the boys that the werewolf was handled. Of course the boys had to know everything about it. Where it really was. If it looked like the picture? If I had to fight it? My foot did make me limp a bit and that caught Andy's attention especially. It felt weird just hearing him ask if I was actually doing okay after that. His voice was softer and calmer than any other time he has asked about anything. It felt different, nice even.
After school I just wanted to get away from everyone and anything that reminded me of Camila, her family, the boys, and my other friends who have been busy, but with school not magic.
"Hey Max! You here?" I shouted and drop my backpack, not caring if my notebooks, pencil case, or iPad would break.
"Someone's in a odd mood?" Max appeared on the stop of the steps near the printer.
"I am just glad that I get to be here, and do anything else that doesn't evolve the people I know."
"Well I am glad you are in a good mood, since I have a something fun for us to do." Max had a suspicious grin on him that made me a bit frightened and even excited.
"What do you have planned?" I crossed my arms.
"Head to that cardio room and you'll see." Max didn't say anything else, and just disappeared. I was hesitant on going, but was curious about what he said, and like Camilla's mom, curiousity got the best of me.
