I drive to the track with Charles on race weekends. If he's not in the car, I'm at his side.
Where's Ophèlie? Next to Charles.
It just works.
I follow Charles out of the garage, greeting the team on the way out.
Charles and I stay in stride through the paddock, greeting people as we pass other teams' motorhomes.
"See you later?" Lando calls as we pass.
Charles nods and gives him a thumbs-up.
Lando winks at me and I smile as we pass.
We reach Charles' car and he opens the passenger door for me. Just like he always does.
"Thanks" I slip inside and he closes the door again before walking around to the driver's side and getting in.
"What are your plans for tonight?" he asks me.
I shrug. "Just prepping for tomorrow, then I'll probably hit the gym and watch a movie before calling it a night."
"Boooooring!" he groans before he starts laughing.
I chuckle and playfully slap his hand. "Well not all of us have dinner plans with F1 drivers."
He glances over at me. "Ophèlie. You know I am also an F1 driver, right? It's hanging out with friends for me."
I mock my surprise. "What!? You're an F1 driver? I never knew!"
He laughs loudly before saying, "You could join us, you know?"
I shake my head. "It's a guy's dinner, I'm good. Thanks though. And anyway, I'll probably see you when you call me to pick you up. I know how you guys get without supervision. The drinks flow endlessly."
He smiles. "Getting drunk tonight won't help my chances of pole tomorrow Ophy-fille."
I turn my head and look at him. "I know. So please be wise tonight."
"I will. I promise. And I won't call you to pick me up. I'll let you get your beauty sleep." he smiles.
I roll my eyes as we pull up to our hotel. We grab our stuff and he hands his keys to the valet.
We walk in comfortable silence through the hotel, up to our rooms.
I stop at my door and watch as he walks to his, next door to mine.
He smiles at me.
"Let me know if you need anything Charlsie. Enjoy dinner. Have a good evening." I smile and open my door.
"You too Ophy-fille." he winks before opening his door.
Once my hotel door is closed, I put my tote down on the table next to the door and kick off my shoes. I stand in the middle of the room for a few minutes, thinking, trying to decide what to do with myself.
"Gym." I decide out loud, walking over to my wardrobe.
I pull out a pair of grey leggings and a white sports bra. I change out of my Ferrari uniform quickly and pull on my trainers.
Before heading down to the hotel gym, I knock on Charles' door.
"Ophy-fille! What's up?" he smiles when he sees me. He slowly looks over me, his eyes stopping on my breasts for a second.
I'm pulling my hair into a messy bun. "Just checking if you need anything before I head down to the gym."
"I'm all good Oph, thanks for checking in." He leans against the door frame and grins widely.
I blush a little. "If you're gonna check me out, at least be more subtle about it."
He bites his bottom lip and meets my eyes. "Sorry."
I laugh. "I'm heading down. Text me if you need anything."
He smiles. "You know I will. Have a good workout."
I give him a quick smile and turn to make my way down to the gym.
On my way down my mind plays over the image of Charles staring at me.
I shake my head slightly, he has been doing that a lot lately.
I put my headphones on when I walk into the gym, pulling up my favourite workout playlist on Spotify.
After the gym, on my way back up to my room, I run into Daniel.
He gives me his signature smile. "Ophelia! How are you?"
He pulls me into a big hug.
I giggle. "Hey, Dan! I'm great! How are things with you? Your FP 1 and 2 times were very promising today."
He hasn't stopped smiling. "I'm good, mate. Thanks, I'm really trying my best."
I give him a sweet smile before he says. "Good gym session?"
I nod. "It always is. Helps me relax, get stuff off my mind, you know?"
He nods, smiling. "I do. What are you and Charles up to tonight?"
I shake my head. "Charles has plans. I plan on having a hot shower and then getting some work done while I watch a movie."
He laughs. "So super eventful night planned then."
"Yeah totally!" I laugh back.
"Wanna grab a bite?" he smiles at me.
I shake my head and smile. "Dan, we both know what happens when you and I get dinner. We end up getting super brave and super wasted. I swear I am still recovering from last time."
I laugh, shaking the image of Daniel and I racing to finish shot skis out of my head.
I shrug. "I need to be in tip-top shape for Charles this weekend. I'm sorry."
Daniel shrugs, beaming. "I told you that I'd beat you with those shots."
I roll my eyes, laughing.
"It's all good hun. You'll party with us on Sunday though, right?" he smiles again.
I nod. "You know it."
"Awesome. I'll let you go then. Have a good night Ophelia." he pulls me into another hug before he steps back and walks towards the door of the hotel.
I smile, shaking my head as I continue on my way to my room.
I'm sitting on the bed, my laptop on my lap, watching a sappy romance movie.
Suddenly my phone starts ringing, I glance at it and see Charles' name.
I sigh. I knew it.
"Charles?" I say as I answer the call.
"Oooooooopppheliaaaaaaaaa!" It's Carlos.
I feel a slight panic in the pit of my stomach.
"Carlos? Where's Charles?"
"He's a party pooper!" Carlos slurs. "Come out with us. Come on Ophy-fi-"
I finally hear Charles in the background. "It's Ophelia to you. Give me my phone, mate."
I sit in silence as I hear Carlos giggling drunkenly, and Charles trying to get him to hand over the phone.
Eventually, after what feels like forever, Charles is on the line. "Ophèlie?"
"Charles? What's going on?" I'm already getting my shoes on.
Charles chuckles. "Ophèlie I'm sorry. He is insisting that you come out with us. I've tried to get an Uber but he refuses to get into the fucking car. Can you come to get us?"
I laugh. "I'm already on my way to your car."
I hear him sigh in relief. "Thank you."
"I'll see you in a bit." I put the phone down and pull up my maps for directions to the restaurant.
