─── ❛ mistakes ❜ ───ISABELLA BLAMED THE GODS, she blamed them because of the monster attack, it was their fault that she almost died, and on top of everything it was raining. she was wet, trying to not step on the mud.
so there they were, annabeth, grover, isabella and percy, walking through the woods along the new jersey riverbank, the glow of new york city making the night sky yellow behind them, and the smell of the hudson reeking in their noses.
grover was shivering and braying, his big goat eyes turned slit-pupiled and full of terror. "three kindly ones. all three at once."
isabella was still in shock. the explosion of bus windows still rang in her ears. but annabeth kept pulling them along, saying: "come on! the farther away we get, the better."
"all our money was back there." percy reminded her. "our food and clothes. everything."
"i still have my backpack." isabella shrugged.
"well, maybe if you hadn't decided to jump into the fight." annabeth ignored the girl's comment, snapping at percy.
"what did you want me to do? let you all get killed?"
"you didn't need to protect us, percy. we would've been fine."
"sliced like sandwich bread," grover put in. "but fine."
"shut up, goat boy." said annabeth.
grover brayed mournfully. "tin cans... a perfectly good bag of tin cans."
isabella approached her friend, still watching where she walked, she didn't wanted to mess up her shoes.
"beth." the girl said in a low voice, wanting only annabeth to hear her. "you should apologize to percy.
"for what?" the blonde snapped with her arms crossed. isabella rolled her eyes, ugh.
"you know that it was the best that percy helped us. he did a good thing."
annabeth kept silent but isabella knew she agreed with her.
"go." she said, smiling at her.
she watched how annabeth walked to percy. good.
"grover." isabella whined when she almost fell because of the satyr.
"sorry, i'm sorry."
"hey," the girl thought about something. "can you piggyback me? i don't want to get dirtier."
grover rolled his eyes with a smile but nodded.
the silence that isabella was enjoying broke because of grover.
"hey, my reed pipes still work!" grover cried. "if i could just remember a 'find path' song, we could get out of these woods!"
"oh honey, no." the brunette told him. "please let me down."
he did as he was told. isabela walked, still watching her path.
grover puffed out a few notes.
isabella heard a noise, she saw how percy was down on the dirt. he tripped with something. she laughed.
percy looked at her with a blush, (or so isabella assumed, it was too dark to notice) and got up fast.
after walking for another mile or so, isabella saw light up ahead: the colors of a neon sign. she could smell food. fried, greasy, disgusting food, but still, her stomach growled. she realized she hadn't eaten anything since she left the camp.
