─── ❛ saving the day with the magic of friendship ❜ ───

THE NEXT FEW DAYS WERE torture, just like tantalus wanted.

isabella had been battled an internal fight between her principles. at first, she was rather disturbed by the cyclops's presence in camp, having heard of the stories that annabeth and luke told her she was a bit scared of tyson, but he was really sweet to be around.

they first talked when isabella was doing her round of cleaning at the stables. she hated those days. unusually there was a big figure in there, tyson, he was trying to talk with the pegasi, but they just ignored him.

"they're not used to being around... creatures like you." she said with an uncomfortable glance.

"no one is." the cyclops said, tears starting to fill his eyes.

isabella wanted to punch her face really hard. as a daughter of aphrodite her sense of empathy was very strong, at least more than the normal demigod. she slowly approached him, her hand started to rub circles on his back, a poor attempt to comfort him. but it seemed to work.

tyson sniffled and talked.

"no one wants to be my friend." he started saying, his voice not very clear due to his crying. "they all point at me and laugh in my face, they think i'm not able to notice."

the girl's heart sank. she realized that tyson was just like any camper there—well, not really—but he was going through a similar experience that a lot of human teenagers did.

she tried to light him up, she offered him to help her with her chore, trying to make him feel included. he gladly agreed. they spent around two hours chatting, isabella even told him about travis and the whole situationship they've been in.

"you should tell that boy you want to be his girlfriend." tyson said innocently.

she smiled at him and changed the subject to how he was feeling at camp. the cyclops started to ramble about how glad he is to have percy as a brother and how fun it is to be with him every day. tyson felt protected with percy, he admired him. isabella's lips started to form a small pout. how can someone so scary-looking be so sweet?

one day, when she was walking with óscar around camp, she heard people making fun of percy because of his brother. she tried to interfere and defend them both, but someone spoke too soon.

"he's not my real brother!" percy protested, tyson wasn't around. "he's more like a half-brother on the monstrous side of the family. like... a half-brother twice removed, or something."

isabella was too stunned to speak. she looked at percy with a bewildered expression. the boy turned around once he noticed how some of the kids started to look in a certain direction. there she was, isabella, looking at him as if he had insulted taylor swift.

"you really think that of him?" she said.

"well, you can't really expect me to accept him as my brother, he's a monster!"

"i thought he was your friend." the girl said slyly. she got him.

"that—that's different." percy started to ramble on reasons why tyson wasn't his real brother. isabella rolled her eyes and walked toward óscar, the hephaestus's son locked their arms and walked away.

since that day, isabella didn't talk to percy, when she was near him, it was only because tyson was there, they would only chat and giggled as if they were the closest friends. percy was jealous.
