"You're sulking."
"Sod off, Pansy. I don't want to hear it," Draco didn't budge and continued to glare at the floor of the Slytherin common room as if he had a personal grudge against it. Pansy sighed and Draco would swear he could almost hear her eyes roll from the couch she was sitting on across from him.
"But you need to hear it. This whole angsty, rip-off emo vibe isn't cute...at all. And as the second cutest girl in this school, I would know," Pansy said with mock disinterest, indifferently studying her perfectly polished black nails.
However, Draco could tell she was worried. It was the slight dip in her voice compared to her usual drone. Despite her seeming annoyance and indifference, she did care. A stranger probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but after spending so long in each other's company, the minuscule details and quirks were easy to spot.
"Just drop it, Pans. It doesn't matter," Draco sighed, finally moving his gaze from the floor to the ceiling as he tilted his head back against the chair's back.
"It does, Draco, if it has you in this state," Pansy frowned, standing and walking to the chair Draco was sitting in before she gently sat on the arm. "This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with everybody's favorite golden boy, would it?"
Draco let out a huff, realizing he wouldn't get out of the conversation so easily.
"I just don't know what to do, Pansy," Draco's eyes desperately traced the patterns of the ceiling, as if searching for meaning in them.
"Oh, Draco. What happened?" Pansy gently ran a hand through the platinum hair.
"He is overwhelmed and I know something is going on but he won't, Merlin, he won't bloody tell me what it is. In his mind, he has twisted it to where he thinks keeping things from me is protecting me. Because Merlin forbid, right? Merlin forbid he be human for a second and rely on me. It just pisses me off because, dammit, he doesn't need to play hero with me! He doesn't need to be invincible! He doesn't have to do it all alone! He means everything to me and I just want him to be able to trust me the way I trust him!" It was like a dam of emotions coming down. In a way, Draco felt pathetic because he gave in so easily and became emotional.
"Oh, Dray, it's okay," Pansy continued to massage his scalp as she shook her head.
"No, it's not okay, Pans," Draco looked over and locked eyes with Pansy for the first time in the entire conversation. "Because I love him, shit, I love him so fucking much. I don't know how to live without him anymore. So what if...what if he gets himself into trouble and I can't protect him? What if he gets hurt because I couldn't be there for him?"
Pansy's hand darted to his cheek to wipe away tears Draco had no idea he had begun to shed. Her smile trembled before she quickly wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
"You are both going to make it through this. I don't know two people who are more insufferable and stubborn than you and Potter. If you want to be together, you'll be together, and Merlin himself couldn't tell you otherwise," Pansy gave a small chuckle before continuing, "It has always been you two, hasn't it? Even from the very beginning, you two were inseparable. A whole school obsessed with him and Harry Potter only ever seemed to have eyes for you. And, Merlin, don't get me started on how obsessed with him you were. From what I've seen, it's going to take a lot more than some dumb war to separate you and that dork," Pansy pulled back with a smirk.
"Merlin, you're such a bitch, Pansy," Draco let out a laugh, wiping the remaining tears from his face."Oh please, you love me," Pansy winked and Draco rolled his eyes.
"I do...unfortunately," Draco smirked and Pansy gave him a shove and they shared a laugh.
"Plus, I wouldn't worry too much about Potter. He has had one of the world's craziest bastards and his cult trying to kill him for 16 years, and he is still kicking. He is immortal," Pansy gently nudged Draco with her elbow.
"He is amazing, isn't he?" Draco smiled gently down at his hands.
"Okay, ew, stop making that lovey-dovey face, it's downright unsettling. It was not an invitation to simp," Pansy scoffed before she gripped his shoulder gently, "But you do need to go to him, Draco. Go and work this out because I've never seen you care so deeply about someone before. Finally, your every thought isn't consumed by meeting the expectations of everyone and everything around you. He is good for you, Dray."
"You're right, Pansy. I need to find him," Draco quickly stood and walked toward the entrance of the common room.
"Oh, and Pansy," Draco turned around with a smile, "thank you."
"Don't mention it, Draco. Someone has to take care of your dysfunctional arse," Pansy smiled warmly despite her words.
Just as Draco turned to exit the common room, the room began to shake as a bang rang out. Draco grabbed the wall to brace himself as he turned to Pansy in panic.
Almost instantaneously, Minerva McGonagall's voice rang out across the school.
"Attention students of Hogwarts! Death Eaters have penetrated Hogwarts! Please make your way to your dormitories as quickly as possible and do not hesitate to defend yourself if need be! I ask that Prefects please try to escort as many first and second years to safety as possible! Stay safe, my dear students."
Draco's eyes widened and Pansy brought a shakey hand to her mouth.
"How...How did they even get in?" Pansy gripped her cloak.
"Harry...I have to find Harry," Draco immediately pulled his wand from his cloak, "If there are Death Eaters in the castle, I could only imagine what they are after."
Pansy's face turned serious and she drew her wand as well.
"Hermione isn't in the Gryffindor common room, she and Weasley went to study after dinner in the Library. She is muggle-born and a known friend of Harry, she isn't safe out there," Pansy began to charge forward.
They both pushed through the entrance and despite the Slytherin common room's distance from the main parts of Hogwarts, screams and the loud casting of spells could be heard as if they were right beside them.
"From my knowledge, Harry had something important he had to do and wasn't with Hermione and Weasley. I'll go towards the Library. Hermione can cast a patronus. I'll have her send one to update you if we find Harry. I don't know where Blaise is, but I am sure he is heading for the Library as well. Then we can regroup after, okay?" Pansy quickly explain as they ran towards the main level of Hogwarts.
"Got it, and Pansy?" Draco turned to her with a serious face, "be safe."
"Don't worry about me, I have the smartest witch in Hogwarts on my side, I'll be fine. You be safe too, okay?" Pansy gave him a reassuring smile as they reached where they needed to split off.
Draco nodded before reaching out and pulling Pansy into a fierce hug.
"I'm serious, you brat. I'll kill you if get yourself killed," Draco gripped her tightly.
"Pfft, as if you could. Now go find Harry, lover boy," Pansy pulled away with a smile and they quickly ran in opposite directions.
