12 years
It had been two years since the death of my best friend, other wise known as my mother. I had matured over the years and I had thick skin. I had never cried as much as I did that night. My grandparents and I all held each other as we sobbed. Blaze stood watching. Later when they exited he went straight to me. As he held me he told me I was the toughest girl, who could go through anything. My tears soaked the shoulder of his shirt.
The funeral was a week after her death. It was private only family and close friends visited. It was a rainy day as Blaze said 'Heaven was crying.'
Now I entered my seventh grade class. Half the kids I didn't recognize. They must of been new. I scanned the room as Rose approached me.
"Suede. I need to talk to you," she grabbed my hand and I rolled my eyes.
"What makes you all of a sudden want to talk to me. You haven't talk to me for the last 2 years," I hiss, her eyes wide open.
"I know Suede. I've been a real bitch, but I just think we need to start over. I miss being friends with you," she gives a weak smile and let's go of my hand.
"Meet me in front of the school after school," she nods in response and hurries off. I feel a tap on my back and I turn to see Blaze.
He had grown and was now a foot taller then me. His blond hair was styled and he had more muscles.
He went off in the summer to visit his dad's side of the family in North Carolina. We talked to each other briefly but not much.
"Hey you. I almost didn't recognize you there. Some one grew," I playfully punch him in the chest as we walk to find seats.
"Thanks it's nice to see you too," he throws his backpack around his chair and faces me. "You know we haven't seen eachother for a month."
"Wow that must be our new record," I joke.
"Well. I got you something," he says pulling out a tiny box from the pocket of his bag.
"What is it?" I ask holding the box delicately in my palm.
"You would figure out if you opened it." I roll my eyes and open the box to reveal a pair of light blue pearl earring.
"Oh. Blaze! Thank you!" I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him close to me. "Thanks it means a lot!" I then slip them into me ears.

"So I saw Rose talking to you today. What was that about?" He asks. We were walking the halls on our way home.
"Oh thanks for reminding me. We have to wait for her at the front of the school. She said she wanted a due over," I shrug my shoulders still thinking it was bizarre myself. As we reach the front of the school we find a seat on a wooden bench then wait for my ex friend.
It had been fifteen minutes after the school bell and she was still no where in sight.
"I vote we leave. She obviously forgot," Blaze says starting to get up.
"No lets just wait a little more. Then we will go," I say pulling him back down.
"Suede. We've been waiting for the past 15 minutes and she still hasn't shown up. She probably went home."
"You're probably right lets go." I sigh.

We sat on the wooden floor boards of the rickety old tree house we used to spend so much time in. The sun was setting and it was after dinner.
