Chapter 20

Recap

He doesn’t waste a minute, and introduces himself right away, “I’m Jay McGuiness. I’m from the U.K. I am a member of the band, The Wanted. I enjoying drinking, lose my cell phone all the time and say inappropriate things at the worst times possible. And you are?”

 I try to keep a straight face as I say, “I’m Emma Larner. I am an art major at NYU. I work in an art gallery. I live in Brooklyn. I drink a lot of coffee and beer and I am a huge fan of The Wanted.”

Jay stretches his hand across the table with a big goofy smile on his face, “Lovely to meet you, Emma.” I shake his hand and smile, “Nice to meet you too, Jay.”

 Emma

 After our little reunion at the hospital café, Jay and I make our way back to the waiting area. He holds my hand as we’re walking, and I look up at him, his bright blue eyes smiling down at me. Everything feels perfect.

  When we walk into the waiting room, we only found Lena and Nathan. Scarlet, Tom and Siva weren’t there, as we were expecting them to be.

  Lena and Nathan were so into their conversation, they didn’t even notice when Jay and I walked in. Jay looks at me and raises his eyebrows questioningly, but I shrug because I have no idea what is going on either.

 We stand there awkwardly, listening to Nathan make a joke and Lena giggle as if it were the funniest thing in the world. Definitely awkward.

 Nathan notices us first, and he sits up straight in his chair and clears his throat, a surprised look on his face, “Uhh, hello you two. Have you been standing there long?”

 Lena looks surprised too, her eyes on my hand that is still in Jay’s. Her eyes meet mine, a strange sparkle in them that I haven’t seen in a while, and a small smirk on her lips.

 Jay and I ignore Nathan’s question. I ask Lena “Where’s Scarlet?” as Jay asks “Where are Tom and Siva?”

 Lena and Nathan both looked momentarily confused, as if they have no idea who the people we are asking about even are. At that moment, Scarlet and Tom stroll into the room, carrying 3 bags from the Shake Shack.

 Tom has a big smile on his face when he notices us all there and says “Oh good, everyone’s here. Now Scar and I won’t have to eat all these burgers on our own. Who’s hungry?”

 Scar? Did Tom really just refer to Scarlet, the girl who hates being called anything but her name, as Scar? I look at her to see how she reacted to Tom’s statement, and see her pursing her lips and raises an eyebrow, something she always does when annoyed. I’m surprised when she doesn’t say anything to Tom though.

Tom turns back towards her and grins in the goofy way that is typical of him, and Scarlet gives him a half-hearted smile back. She’s actually being nice to him, considering the fact that she’s obviously annoyed by him. Weird.

Tom looks at me and laughs, “ So we haven’t been formerly introduced but you must be the famous Emma I’ve heard so much about for the past three months. Jay does not shut up about you. You must be pretty great.” He holds his arms out and gives me a big hug.

I look at Jay. He covers his face and shakes his head in embarrassment before saying, “Alright mate, that’s enough. Leave my girl alone.”

Everyone pauses when they hear Jay’s comment. Scarlet’s jaw drops and she looks at Lena, who just shrugs her shoulders. Nathan smiles as Tom punches Jay on the arm, “Good job, mate. I knew you’d get her back. Was it the song?”

He turns to me, putting his arm around my shoulder, “It was the song, right? We’ve never performed it live. I sounded fantastic, so I will take credit for your and Jay’s reunion, thank you very much.”

Jay laughs and pokes him in the stomach, “Oh, get over yourself, Tom! Anyways, what’s in the bags? I’m starving!”

We all grab a burger, and fortunately, Tom remembered to get Jay a veggie burger. We’re eating and making small chat when Siva walks in, looking like a Calvin Klein model walking the runway. Although I didn’t really freak out at all when I met Nathan and Tom, like I always imagined I would, seeing Siva walk towards us in that godly way of his brings out the fangirl in me, like it probably does to any one with eyes. He’s just that beautiful.

The first time I met Siva was when he appeared on campus and basically threatened me. I did have my small fangirl moment when he let me touch his cheekbones, which was awesome.

Tom throws a wrapped burger at Siva as he approaches our group and he catches it without hesitation, but he sets it back down in the bag. Ever the gentlemen he formally introduces himself to Scarlet and Lena before turning to me. I get nervous when his eyes are on me, and I’m worried about what he’s going to say. “Emma, Jamie’s doctor wants to see you.”
