“Stark?” I said shakily, my breath catching.

He didn’t answer me as he leaned in closer, his face inches away from mine. My eyes traced every contour of his face, taking in the strong jaw line and long nose. His long eyelashes grazed his upper cheekbones and I found myself infatuated with each lash, knowing they concealed the brilliant green eyes that made my heart flutter every time I looked into them.

“D-Do you want to hear a joke?” I stuttered, panicking when he came even closer.

Stalling, I cleared my throat and looked away from Stark for a moment, desperately trying to avoid the inevitable. I knew in my heart that I was going to have my first kiss right here in the park, under the moonlight with the soft grass in between my toes and the light evening breeze ruffling my hair.

“Maybe later,” Stark whispered, smiling when I jerked back again as he moved another inch closer. "Relax."

I pursed my lips and was about to protest when his lips were suddenly touching mine. Making a strange sound in the back of my throat, I tried to recover from the surprise. Then, as if a lightbulb went off in my head, I forgot everything that I’d been nervous about. His lips were soft velvet and I could almost feel his love passing from him to me, even though the kiss was innocent and sweet, not like the ones you see in movies. He pulled away too soon.

My disappointment must’ve shown on my face because Stark asked, obviously amused, “Disappointed?”

I blushed. “N-No! I just...I mean.. that’s it?” I couldn't help but blurt, immediately hating myself after.

Stark laughed, his laughter echoing throughout the park. I watched his sea green eyes switch their gaze from the distance to my light blue ones. “As much as I’d love to make out with you, Cass, I wanted you to feel your first kiss in your heart, not your head," he said seriously, his green eyes shining with love and sincerity. " Besides, we have a long time to enjoy the physical part of it, anyway.”

Before my confidence deserted me, I decided to show him my appreciation and love as well by saying, “Okay, I’m ready for my second kiss.”

He grinned before leaning in, and this time, I was the one who closed the distance.
