"It says here 'Men are driven to succeed first. It is only after they are successful that they can focus on relationships.' and.." I moved my finger along the line of the paper finding another key point. "Men are often driven by success. They want to achieve goals, and then they can focus on relationships. Men show love through actions rather than words or caring gestures.""That's really good, and it's true." Angie nodded.
"I noticed that though that's what's crazy. The more I read this book the more I learn and realize this shit is so real."
"Mmhm girl."
"So I wrote a list of everything, from my rules to what I'm looking for in a relationship. Just based off of what I read so far." I showed her my journal and she read through it.
"Where was this when I first met Nelly?" She mumbled and I laughed.
"You did it the right way though, just based off what you know and learned from the bible."
"Yeah. I told Nelly about how I was spiritually and he did not judge me like I thought he would. He became apart of it and that's really when I fell in love with him, I did the 90 day rule and on the 90th day is when this happened." She points to her stomach. "But the fourth date he just asked me to marry him." She shrugged. "Holding out definitely works."
"Yeah it does. I want that but I have to know he at-least has a connection with something higher than him you know?" I asked and she nodded understanding. "I don't even know if he believes in God... or Jesus.. or he—"
"How about you ask tonight when you two go on your date?" She cut me off and smiled after her statement. "And don't bring your list till the second date, but ask the questions you know and have studied and really just get to know him."
Everything I would be asking him would be coming straight out of the book. I had to know if my feelings were real.
Real being; I liked him for the right reasons, that potential I saw in him is truly there, and that I'm not wasting my time.
"Okay." I blew out some air bracing myself.
"Now let's go find you an outfit." She smiled.
—
"Kema I'm about to tape your eye shut." Hailey spoke applying the makeup to my eyelid. I was daydreaming and forgot she was doing my makeup so I would move around and open my eyes here and there.
"Okay I'm sorry."
"Make that your last sorry." She scolded and then smiled. "Awee, oh em gee. Can't believe I'm getting you ready for your first date."
"Don't take all the credit!"Angie yelled from my bedroom. She was getting my outfit together since I've always trusted her with my wardrobe.
"I will." Hailey smirked. "I was gonna tell you to open your eyes but since you can't keep 'em closed..." She mumbled to herself.
