"You said you did what?" I squinted my eyes at the wall while pausing massaging Kema's feet in the process. "You fucking with me right?""I wish I was bro." Benji spoke through the phone sounding stressed out.
"I don't even know what to say to you, why would you do that? When did that even happen? How did you even have the time to hide a child from everybody?"
"My intentions weren't to hide my son, it just happened that way, I was in a bad place back when I got Keyshawn pregnant. It wasn't supposed to go down like that." He responded.
I went back to rubbing her feet glancing up at her noticing she was still chewing on her grapes and watching her show not paying me no mind.
"Probably wasn't your intentions but it still happened twin," I spoke. "That's fucked up how you be doing her."
"Ion need to hear that right now."
"So what you call me fa?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "You thought I was finna tell you what you wanted to hear? Nigga we family."
He didn't say anything so I kept talking.
"I would try to give you advise but I can't even think of nothing to say, you really can't come back from that...just give y'all relationship a break, focus on your son at this point."
"Yeah you right." He finally spoke. "Yeah...you are right. Matter fact—" He hung up on me. I let my phone fall from my shoulder to my lap.
It was crazy how just last week he was running around worrying about Hailey leaving him about a little book when this whole time he was hiding a baby.
A whole baby.
It was weird how somebody could be so close to you, smile and joke in your face all day long and you still won't know shit about what they really have going on. To me that's scary, but then I realized there was a side to me that I hadn't revealed to anyone myself, maybe my friends knew about it.
But to someone like Kema, she would have never known I lit a house on fire with somebody in it. That was just one of the many bad things I did in the past, and hopefully none of those would be uncovered.
I was trying to become a better version of myself. Everyday I was constantly getting reminded of reasons why I should change my life around. And Benji just added on to the list.
"You okay?" I heard and I looked up at Kema. "What you thinking about?"
"Nothing, boy shit." I shrugged. I lifted her foot up and she laughed sliding down on her back putting her feet in the air, snatching them from my grip in the process. I smirked at her and stood up from the seat stretching.
