Italics - Memories
"Come on, baby, let's go enjoy the rest of this warm summer day." You say to the avenger smile widely.
One Year Ago - You left me for her
Running through the halls of the compound you could hear your girlfriend, Wanda, and best friend, Yelena, giggling as they attempted to run faster than you. Of course, they both knew this would not work since you had been joining Natasha on all her morning runs recently.
"Wanda. Yelena. You two might as well give up now. There is no way either of you are getting away with this!"
The pair run around the kitchen island to the far side with you quickly entering the kitchen right after. The two start laughing loudly, it is only now that they finally see how their prank worked out. You are head to toe covered in flour with a less than amused expression washing over your face as you finally make eye contact with the redhead and blonde.
"Y/N, you cannot be mad. You wanted us to get closer and spend more time together, remember?"
Ten Months Ago - We bonded over the pain she gave
"I just do not understand why Wanda would ditch you like that," you said to the former assassin, bringing your hand up to wipe the tears falling from your best friend's eyes. It upset you how your girlfriend thought she could skip out on plans without telling anyone. That action alone was so out of character for her, but Yelena's reaction was more shocking. You could not help but wonder why Wanda standing up Yelena had hit her so hard. She had a brick wall of emotions so seeing her cry over a now cancelled friendship outing was strange. The thought was quickly forgotten though as you went back to try and cheer up the blonde.
"How about you and I go and watch The Purge? Yeah, would that make you smile?" You asked hopefully.
"You are so kind. Yeah, let's go watch." She replied.
Six Months Ago - But that's the problem
To say you and Wanda had drifted recently would be an understatement. It felt like you had only seen her around the compound a few times over the past few months. Which you thought was weird enough in itself but the fact you two had been sharing the same room only added to your confusion on the absence of your girlfriend. Walking into the living room, you decide to question your fellow avengers on the situation.
"Hey, Nat, Tony, have you seen Wanda around?" The billionaire's face drops while he sends a quick look to the spy which she does not return. The redhead takes in a quick breath before responding,
"лютик, I think we need to talk. I cannot sit around anymore and watch what is happening continue."
Never in your life did you feel so oblivious. The thought of 'you are a spy' screaming in your head over and over again. Recalling the feeling of ice that ran through your body hearing every moment of the redhead and blonde sneaking out of the compound and sneaking back in during all hours of the day. Yet, it was learning that the two would spend evenings cooking in the kitchen which often led to slow dancing around the island as you were sent away on missions that truly broke your heart. Nothing could have prepared you for the downfall of the people who you loved and trusted most, shattering your heart. The more you listened to the words Natasha spoke, the more you felt your body shut down and fall into a ghost-like state. You wanted nothing more than to become invisible and reduce yourself down to how unimportant you felt.
Three Months Ago - You can't bond over pain
It took you a while to be able to leave the new room you now occupied, knowing that facing any of your housemates would send you back towards your room. Unfortunately, you had no choice but to venture out of your room when the IA system would not have any more food or toiletries sent to your bedroom door. The surprise of coming face to face with the blonde was something that rocked you to your core.
"Hi, Y/N." She spoke cautiously.
"Hi, Yelena." You returned quickly, causing your former best friend to smile.
"Can we talk?" The question stops you dead in your tracks. Slowly turning around to face the former assassin again with a wide eyed expression, responding with a very hesitant, "okay."
From that moment you worked hard to ignore the fact Yelena had swooped into your relationship and taken your place with Wanda. You did not want to care about that fact; you simply missed your best friend, so that is what you did. You pushed down as much hurt and anger as you could while Yelena was there to help you pick up and sort the pain of your break up. It almost felt like an act of anti poetic justice. Your positions switched as Yelena now wipes the tears falling onto your cheeks. Looking up at her as if you are begging to understand why she did what she did. Your mind racing, trying to figure out how to survive with this new dynamic with someone you used to know.
One Month Ago - Because I hate her and you love her
You do not understand how the three of you got into a full screaming match in the middle of the living room. Even more, you do not understand why you are being dragged into the middle of the argument. The blonde and the redhead often glancing towards you trying to prove a point or gain your agreement.
"I gave so many signs! You knew how much I pulled away from Y/N!" The redhead screamed at the blonde. A look of pain painting over your face.
"Y/N saw how much you loved me! They saw how you looked at me!" The blonde screamed back. All you could manage to do was stare blankly ahead wishing for the ground to swallow you whole. Everyone in the compound silent, hoping to go unnoticed by the arguing pair while getting close enough to hear.
"This is not about Y/N! This is about us!" The Sokovian retaliated. The sound of a pen dropping could have been heard from any level in the compound. Meanwhile, waves of emotion are rolling over your body. There is a pause of silence breaking up the previous yelling.
"I love you!" The Russian said, returning to her normal volume. She turns towards you, trying to find comfort and affirmation in her now sinking relationship.
"And I hate you." You whispered towards the witch before walking away from them both.
Current Day
You never thought you would make it through the cold winter or the rainy spring. Yet, here you were stepping out of the compound's front door, welcoming summer with the bottom of your feet burning slightly from the hot concrete, the hot sun hitting your skin reminding you that your heart is warm again. You realized this meant the hardest part is finally over, knowing that you no longer will have to hear their names being whispered through the wind during long, dark nights. At long last, you were free to find the person truly meant to carry your heart; you had a pretty good guess as to who it might be.
"Darling-"
