CHAPTER TWO:
' anxiety '

Hayley woke up, due to the sun shinning in her eyes. She wasn't used to it, and made a mental note to ask her mother to go shopping later for some curtains. As she sat up, yawning, her eyes caught sight of a bag she had never seen before sitting on her dresser. Curious, she walked over to it, seeing three pairs of bikinis. Next to the bag was a note.

"Figured you would need some of these. Your dad is off to work, and I'm off to find a generator. See you later, honey. Love, Mom."

Hayley sighed before taking out the red bikini, remembering she made plans with Kie, and the other Pogues. She looked down as her phone chimed. She pulled out the device to see a text from an unknown number.

"Hey, it's Kie. Sorry, I'm texting so late, but we're all waiting on you. You coming?" The text read.

Hayley quickly typed in a subtle, "coming" before rushing to change and do something with her hair. After getting ready, she began making her way to The Cut on foot. After a dreadful walk, and multiple people offering to give her ride, she arrived at the address she had gotten from Kie last night.

"Hello?" She questioned as she walked into the house, looking around at the mess. She continued to walk, but she didn't find anyone.

Voices caught her attention, leading her outside to the back, where she found everyone. "Finally." The blond says as he walks over to speak to the girl. "You came. Didn't think you would."

"Kie invited me... and it's not like I had any other plans." Hayley shrugs. "So what are we doing today?"

"Um... looking at a sunken boat." John B tells her.

"Oh... fun." She spoke sarcastically.

She found island people weird. Who just goes to look at a sunken boat on their free time? She'd rather be doing ballet... or painting her nails.

"Wait... where'd you get this from?" Hayley asks, looking at the oxygen tanks and scuba gear.

"Uh... y-your uncle's boat." John B answers truthfully, earning a disapproving look from the girl, but everyone was shocked to hear a soft chuckle come from her lips.

"Your secret is safe with me. I barely know the guy anyway." Hayley shrugs. "Do any of you guys even know how to dive?"

"Uh, no. We were actually hoping you would." JJ speaks up, causing the girl's mouth to drop. "It is a Kook sport."

"Me? Why me?" She looks at them. "I grew up in the city, not the ocean! And I'm not a Kook! I barely know what that means."

"So you're a Pogue?" He asks.

"I'm nothing. I'm a person. My money and social class doesn't define me." Hayley argues.

"It kinda does." JJ tells her.
