CHAPTER 17:
' hesitancy '

Hayley groaned as the sun shined in her eyes. She sighed as she sat up, stretching and multiple bones popping, due to the uncomfortable pull out couch at the chateau. She looked to her left to see JJ laying face down beside her. She smiled to herself at how innocent he looked and decided to document this moment. She pulled out her phone, snapping a quick picture. JJ was too heavy a sleeper to wake up to the noise of the photo being taken.

Her eyes looked over his shirtless back, and how toned he was. His muscles were so define even without flexing. After a few minutes, she got bored of being the only one awake and decided to wake JJ up.

"Wake up." She shook the boy, but no response. "JJ." She dragged out, but still nothing. She groaned as she climbed on top of him and begin jumping up and down. "Wake up. Wake up. Wake upppppp."

"What?" He groaned, his word being muffled by the pillow.

"Wake up, please." She spoke.

"No. Let me sleep." He pushed the girl off of him.

Hayley sighed before leaning down next to his ear. "I'm topless." She whispered, and in a matter of seconds he was awake, only to be disappointed.

"That's evil." He glared at her.

"Morning." She smiled at him.

"Morning, princess." He kissed her cheek.

"You wanna go get some breakfast?" Hayley questions, combing her hair with her fingers.

"Yeah, let me brush my teeth." JJ jumped up.

Hayley watched as JJ scarfed down his eggs as if he hadn't eaten in days, and she wondered if that was true. Did his dad provide food for him? Was he somewhat of a parent to him? Somehow? Someway?

"I can get you more if you want." Hayley tells him, drinking her lemonade.

"Uh... no, it's alright." He shakes his head, but he clearly wanted more.

Hayley rolled her eyes as she waved over the waitress. "Can I get another order of eggs and bacon, please?"

"Yeah, of course." The woman smiled.

"Hayley—"

"JJ, it's fine. If you're hungry, I'll help." She tells him. "Just let me help."

"A-Alright." He nods, eating a forkful of eggs. "Thank you."

Hayley watched in awe as JJ ate. He just looked so innocent, and happy, and pleased. Although she knew who he was on the surface— which was a delinquent, no good, trouble maker basket case— that didn't compare to who he was on the inside. Which was loyal, caring, protective, trust worthy, and someone who just wanted to be loved correctly.
