FLYING.
━ QUICK AND LIGHT FEET JUMPED FROM TREE BRANCH TO TREE BRANCH AS HEAVY FOOTFALLS TRAILED BEHIND. Artemis struggled to keep up with Neteyam, who did not falter despite the roughness beneath his steps. The teenage boy glanced at Artemis's unbalanced footsteps as he slid down a tree limb toward a sandy area with direhorses.
"Your steps are like the talioang, heavy and thoughtless." Neteyam insulted, watching Artemis stumble onto the sand.
Artemis scowled but decided against a snarky response as she followed Neteyam to a herd of direhorses. The older boy grasped its lead and laid a hand on its chest, feeling the steady rhythm of its beating heart.
"One of the first things you will need to learn is how to ride a pa'li." Artemis cautiously extended her hand and ran it along the side of its neck.
Neteyam observed the way she circled the creature, examining its amour-like skin and its six legs. Artemis caught his stare in her peripheral, but refused to acknowledge him. She couldn't understand why, but it seemed that every time she looked at the boy, he would already be doing the same.
Placing her hands on the horse's back, she readied to lift herself up, but the strain in her muscles was interrupted by a pair of large hands. Artemis gasped sharply as Neteyam placed his hands on her waist, hoisting her up onto the creature.
"What- I could have done that myself, you know." Artemis's defensive tone caused Neteyam to raise a challenging eyebrow at her.
"My mother told me my ten-foot father had trouble getting on the first time. I was just making the process easier for you." He mocked, knowing that his action had been an intentional jab at her ego.
The teenage girl scoffed and scooted closer to the neck of the direhorse. "What's her name?" She asked while placing her hands on each side to stabilize herself.
"His name is Vaktu."
Neteyam walked over to another pa'li and quickly connected his queue with the creature and skillfully swung his leg over its back. The horse-like animal shook its head with a snort and treaded through the puddles of water next to Artemis.
