Scaramouche leans back in his seat with an annoyed groan.

"Why me."

"Because Childe will literally never become her friend and I'm busy."

La Signora glances over to the bit of luggage the Balladeer has already packed for the continuation of his travels today.

"it'll keep her busy and give you an opportunity to 'befriend' her because you two are basically stuck with each other."

"No way. Do I look like I'm stooping that low to befriend some pathetic girl just because the Tsaritsa said so? You take care of it."

Now it was Signora's turn to groan.

"Scaramouche, I am working day and night. What do you want me to do? Have her sit silently next to me for weeks on end until the Tsaritsa is satisfied?"

"I don't care what happens with that girl, she's not coming with me."

Fueled by annoyance, La Signora turns on her heel, walks out of the room, and forcefully shuts the door behind her. The Balladeer sighs quietly.

What a joke. Me? Taking a fragile little human with me. Hah. Don't make me laugh.

YOUR POV:

You stand awkwardly at the entrance of the Northland bank, an Agent next to you carrying the small backpack for you. It's filled with spare clothes, some rations and other small necessities for a trip- only you have no idea where you're going. Looking down at yourself, you inspect the uniform the Fatui had given you. They're the same as the other members around you, which makes you want to strip right back out of them.

Did you land in some cult?? Why are you suddenly a part of all this?

The young man with the hat and icy eyes walks towards the entrance and pauses momentarily when spotting you.

"What in Teyvat are you doing here."

He asks bluntly, to which you just shrug.

"Not sure, La Signora ordered me to wait here for you.. Oh," you rummage through the pocket of your coat, pulling out a small letter, "She wanted me to give you this."

Scaramouche snatches the letter out of your hand, ripping it open carelessly, his eyes skimming over the text quickly.

"Childe and La Signora are both out of Town- Are you serious?"

His face turns grim and you can sense the Agent next to you still holding your bag grow uneasy.

"Well then, c'mon, switch into those uniform shoes and hurry up, I won't accept you slowing me down."

Slipping into the shoes, you nod. He eyes your appearance, huffing quietly.

"You look ridiculous. Anyway, our travel to Mondstadt takes around 3 days, though I'll complete some other missions on the way, giving us a week until we need to be in the city of freedom."

You just awkwardly look at him. Should you tell him that you have no idea what Mondstadt is? Were you allowed to talk to him, or would he get mad at you?

Without waiting for an answer, he turns around and heads for the bank's door.

The two of you step outside and the cold air brushes against your skin. It's gotten colder these last few days, if you were to guess, you'd say it's around mid-autumn.

"Uh, Scaramouche?" You speak up carefully, the annoyed man next to you not sparing you one glance.

"What do you want?"

Hesitation freezes your next words to come out, which annoys him even more.

"What?" He repeats, sharply turning his head to glare at you.

"What exactly is a Harbinger?" You ask. The question had bugged you ever since you caught wind of him, Signora and Childe being one, but the question suddenly sounded kind of dumb.

Scaramouche pauses only to break out in a small chuckle, immediately followed by rude words.
"Are you really that stupid? We 11 Harbingers are the most powerful and highest-ranking among the Fatui. Have you never heard of us? Archons sake."

An uncomfortable silence washes over you two and you stare at the ground.

"I've never heard of Teyvat before a week ago either." You respond dryly.

The trip this far has been rather uneventful. You've seen a few of these things called Hillichurls, though Scaramouche didn't even pay them a single look when passing. Guess they're friendly.

"We'll be staying here overnight. Our trip continues at 5 o'clock in the morning. Be ready until then." He sighs.

Finally, some rest. You're not used to walking for hours on end, but Scaramouche on the other hand doesn't seem to mind it one bit.

Winding down next to some ruins, Scaramouche sets down his stuff and unpacks two tents.

He blankly tells you to make yourself useful and start a fire, which you immediately do.. or rather try to do.

The two rocks once again hit against each other, causing little sparks to fly into the air and extinguish.

"Ugh, get out of the way." The Balladeer pushes you to the side after your fourth try to light the fire and holds his palm over the firewood.

A sudden small burst of electricity emits from his body and lights the material on fire.

"WHA-" You jump back and shield your face from the energy.

Scaramouche stares at you. "Are you serious? You've never seen an elemental power before??" He asks, shaking his head softly at your embarrassing reaction.

"Uh, NO?"

You were absolutely astonished. Is this power normal in this world? Why is he so casual about it?!

"God, your voice is giving me a headache, just shut up already." He groans, rubbing his temples with his fingers.

SCARAMOUCHE'S POV:

I should've almost expected this reaction from her.
If she doesn't even recognize the Fatui or Nations, I guess visions are an entirely new concept to that girl.

Y/n helps me prepare some food we brought with us and we both eat in silence. I see her glancing at me from time to time, though I really couldn't care less, as long as she keeps her mouth shut.

Soon the two of us head into our separate tents, though I have no intention of sleeping.

Looking back at the situation I first found her in, she'll probably attempt to escape tonight.

I sit down and start skimming through a book La Signora recommended to me. It's insanely boring, but I didn't have anything else to do.

A strange noise rips me out of my suffering, a noise that wasn't human.

It wasn't a voice, or a footstep, but a mechanical humming.

A Mitachurl?

No.

There's another sound, this time followed by a robotic voice.

A Ruin Hunter.

HELLO READERS,

It's so satisfying to watch the story progress into something that actually makes sense (if you haven't noticed yet, this is the new, rewritten version because the other one sucked ass)
