"We're going to head back to Liyue right tomorrow morning. Pack your things today so you won't hold us up." He informs you.
Scaramouche had woken you and told you about his plans today. You two had eaten breakfast together and were now talking about your upcoming travel.
You felt a bit better today and were optimistic that you'd be fine until tomorrow.
"I have to go to a meeting now, you can either head back to the hotel, or enjoy Mondstadt. It's up to you." He gives you a little look, before turning away.
You nod. "Yeah, I want to walk around a bit more."
He gets up and says goodbye before turning around and leaving. You wait a bit before you're 100% sure Scaramouche is gone. Then you immediately head to the church where you presume that bard from yesterday hangs around. At least you hope he'll be there today again.
The air is crisp outside, and you shiver a bit. It's a cold day with a bad cold. Great.
Mondstadt is bustling with citizens and what you assume are travelers. People are talking and trading goods for shiny mora as you walk up the large stairs to the church.
You spot a small group of people praying and look around for the strange bard with the braided hair.
"Ah! It's you again!"
A voice behind you chirps and you turn around to meet the same green eyes you've been looking for."Missed me already, mystery girl?"
He muses and you sigh."Strange question.. But who are you?"
"*Ahem*, my name is Venti the Bard! Nice to meet you for real this time!"
You tilt your head, analyzing his appearance.
"Are you sure we haven't met before?" You ask, causing him to raise an eyebrow, so you continue.
"You knew my name."
Venti lets out a small laugh, although it doesn't sound genuine.
"Did I now... hahaaaaa.... Well, you must've mentioned it before!"
"I'm very sure I didn't."
The bard swallows and your eyes narrow. The sudden feeling that there is more to this bard won't let you go.
"Shall I play you something on my lyre? Perhaps I have a song fitting for your journey!"
Venti skillfully changes the topic while grabbing his lyre, giving it an experimental strum. You open your mouth to argue, but he cuts you off with his song. Goddamn bard. Song after song he finally stops and you clear your voice as the small audience that has gathered around him departs once again.
"Ah- you're still here. Then let me entertain you for a while. I see it in your eyes that you have questions."
You look at him skeptically. Clearly he used this little show to make up the answers she wants to hear before she can ask him and put him on the spot.
"do you know anything, anything at all about me?"
Venti tilts his head and before he can answer, you continue.
"Please, this is really important. Have you heard of me before? Did I ever visit here or maybe even live here?"
Venti hums.
"Wouldn't you know that best?"
You groan. This stupid- "Unfortunately, I don't. I have no recollection of my past."
The bard looks at her and something seems to click in his mind. Like the final reassurance he needed.
"Interesting. Tell me Y/N.. You travel with the Fatui, correct?"
"Um, yes, I don't know how that has to do with anything-"
"Are you aware of their goals? Their reputation?"
This makes you pause. You know of the things the Fatui told you, but nothing from the outside.
"Depends. I know they're a worldwide organization being run by some god.."
"Well-.." Venti's eyes flicker to some point behind you and then back to you. "Just know that Mondstadt is your friend, alright..? May the Anemo Archon bless you."
That almost sounded like you are the villain here.
"Wha-"
"This is where you waste your time?" Startled, you look over your shoulder. Then back to Venti, who is nowhere to be found. What.
"Scaramouche- What are you doing here?" You say a bit perplex, turning to the Harbinger who approached you. "I thought your meetings took a few hours and you weren't free until evening?" You laugh. Scaramouche scrunches his nose.
"Meetings bore me and so do the mortals holding them. I excused myself the moment I was no longer needed."
He sighs playfully. "What have you been up to this whole time? Don't tell me you've sat here listening to the people praying for hours?"
You snort.
"No, I've been chatting with a bard. But he kinda ran off the minute you came."
Scaramouche's expression darkens.
"He ran off?"
You nod, but pause, a small wave of dizziness overcoming you. Ah. Right. The sickness. It's like in Venti's presence it was held at bay, but now it's coming back full force.
"Hey woah-" Scaramouche grabs your arm as you stagger. "Y/N."
Your head is throbbing, everything is spinning, god, where did this come from??
"Y/N??" Scaramouche urges again, before waving over a Fatui agent nearby. It's Arnold- you didn't even notice him following you..
"Is everything alright?"
"I don't know, she isn't answering."
The ringing in your ears slowly fades and you open your eyes reluctantly to meet Scaramouche's gaze.
"Y/N. Focus."
"Here, take these." Arnold pulls out a small bottle of painkillers. "I got them when I bought the others, just in case." You grab the bottle and quickly swallow one. Your grip on Scaramouche's clothing tightens subconsciously as you wait for the headache to die down, but of course painkillers aren't momentary relief. Scaramouche notices your fingers tangled in his hakama robe, but doesn't say anything. Instead, he holds his hand up to your forehead to check your temperature.
"She doesn't have a fever. Probably a migraine." He guesses, his voice indifferent.
"Should I carry her back to her hotel? I don't think she's able to walk back." Arnold offers, but Scaramouche declines.
"No, I'll take care of it. Go back and prepare her room for her." He demands. Arnold takes a swift bow and hurries towards the Goth hotel.
