"Oh! Look at him!" Her voice was sweet, but barely audioble.

I woke up, opening my eyes to a finger pointing at me in front of my face.

The finger moved away as she was looking at her tiny fairy-selves. "Isn't this tooth adorable, like him?"

I sat up and saw a half human, half hummingbird at the other end of my bed. She had two little hummingbirds that looked like her but more like hummingbirds. They chirped and smiled her. Then one pointed at me, chirping like it was having a fit, and she turned to me. She gasped, hovering back to my window. Her body stilled as she descended into a frozen state. Her pink eyes scanned every inch of my face with bird like movements, but her body was still. She seemed scared to move, even to breathe.

My eyes landed on the tooth in her hand. I smiled at her, and I began crawling to the end of my bed to be closer to her. "Are you the tooth fairy? That's my tooth isn't it?"

She hovered back, placing a hand on the window. "Yes, it's me... but..." Sighing, she frowned with gentle eyes. Her eyes lowered, like she was being forced to do something she didn't want to do. "No more broken dreams," she whispered to herself.

"What?"

"Damian, this is a dream."

"What?" I frowned. "But you're real. I can see you." I yawned, shutting my eyes, and she was gone. I rushed to my window, hoping she was still in sight somewhere. I looked right, left, and out into the street.

I was ready to give up, but then I heard a distance, familiar chirp.

She was there, but she flying over the next block. The moon light made the small silhouette of hers shimmer because of her feathers. At her side were two little humming birds. I watched as the shadow of their outlines began to fade into dots, and I continued to watch as they faded into darkness. My shoulders fell as I realized that the tooth fairy was now gone. I almost began to cry.

That might have been my last baby tooth... Now, I'll never see her again.

Then I remembered my tooth in her hand. I rushed to my pillow and found a quarter. "But you're real." I gripped it tightly. "So maybe I can see you again."
