WHEN SYLVIA AWOKE to screams the next day, they weren't hers. An animalistic screech reverberated through the Homestead. She cringed at the sound and shot out of bed, pulling on a navy blue shirt that had been thrown on the chair of her desk and green cargo pants. She checked the time on her digital watch as she ran out of her room, sock clad feet padding on the wooden floor boards quietly. It was eight thirty.
She'd fallen into the routine of waking later in the day, due to the fact that she didn't have to be in the Maze. She traveled as quickly as she could down the steps and to the Med-jack room, where another inhuman scream sounded.
The sight she'd been welcomed by threw her off. Clint, Nick, and Alby were restraining a thrashing Gally. His eyes bulged and spit dribbled down his chin as he yelled. The beginnings of green and black veins had begun sprouting on his neck. Jeff was fumbling through cabinets, presumably looking for the Grief serum and a needle.
Sylvia rushed to help the trio holding Gally down. Alby and Clint each had one of his arms while Nick was attempting to restrain both his legs. She told him to move over and took his right leg and Nick took his left.
"Jeff, hurry your shuck-butt up!" Alby grunted.
Gally screamed ballistically and kicked out his legs, hitting Nick in the face and sending him flying backwards.
"Fuck!" Sylvia yelled trying to grab both legs and pin them down. He had a muscled build and with the strength the Griever sting pumped through his system, she struggled, putting all her weight onto him. Another Keeper came running into the room, having been woken by the ruckus. Aslan grabbed Gally's left leg, relieving her of the weight of an extra leg. Sylvia gritted her teeth as she put pressure on both her feet, stabs of pain climbing up her left foot.
"Got it!" Jeff shouted.
He ran over and injected the needle into his arm, releasing the blue liquid into his veins. Gally screeched once again. If anything, the serum made him angrier.
