SYLVIA SPLASHED COLD water over her face, the frigid temperature of it sending a shiver down her spine. The noise of rushing water flowed around her. She turned off the faucet. Her hands gripped the edge of the sink as she let the water run along the ridge of her nose and drip onto the off-white porcelain.
They didn't have mirrors here in the Glade, so she had no idea what she looked like. She knew she had tanned brown skin and long, chestnut brown hair. Her hair was sort of choppy due to the fact that she had trusted a teenage boy with a pair of scissors. Namely, Troye.
Sylvia dried her face with a towel and let out a breath. Today was the day she was going back in the Maze.
Knuckles rapped against the wooden door of the bathroom, "Sylvia, let's go!"
"Give me a damn minute!" She shouted back. She heard mumbling on the other side of the door as Minho retreated.
For some stupid, idiotic, irrational reason, Minho had paired them together for the Maze. He refused to give her a reason as to why he did it. They hadn't run the Maze together since the day of George's death.
She steeled herself and walked out of the bathroom, head high and all signs of anxiety concealed. The Med-jacks had asked the Creators for an ankle brace and instructed Sylvia to wear it, threatening to not let her run at all if she didn't. So, she put the brace on. It stabilized the fragile area of her ankle so that she wouldn't easily mess it up again.
Sylvia had already eaten breakfast, so she made her way to the Map Room to grab her stuff. The other Runners bustled about noisily in the room. She had been training herself to go back to the Maze for a week now . Running laps around the Glade's perimeter, getting her body back into shape. Two months could change a lot.
She was greeted with pats on the back as she walked to the back of the room, giving smirks out in return. Whoops and cheers for one of the Runners' Keepers surrounded her.
