AUGUSTINE HATED rain.

A water fairy hating rain, outrageous right? She didn't always use to hate rainy days. They used to make her happy. She'd play in the courtyard, manipulating the water around her.

But she wasn't there anymore.

Augustine sighed. She sat perched on her window watching rain droplets fall.

"August, honey?" Her mother called, knocking softly on the door.

Augustine turned to face the door, her hair curly, brown hair whipped around her shoulders.

Her mother stood at the door of her room, holding onto the frame of the door looking at Augustine with sad eyes.

"Are you okay, dear?" Adria's voice rang out, smooth like chocolate.

Augustine plastered a smile on her lips, "I'm fine, mum."

Adria looked into her daughter's big, brown eyes.

It had been a couple years since their family reunited. There were days when Augustine happy and then there were days when she wouldn't leave her room.

Today was one of those days.

Fletcher was on a trip so Adria was left with Augustine.

The queen tried everything to make her daughter smile but Augustine's joy never lasted long.

Adria breathed slightly and spoke, "I just wanted to inform you that Stella is coming for a visit."

Augustine's eyes brightened just the slightest and Adria's heart melted.

"Oh wonderful!" She said, excited. Her smile was bright as she looked at her mother.

Ever since they first met, Augustine always looked up to Stella. They were like sisters, they laughed, they fought. Their bond could never be broken.

Adria smiled back, "I'll let you know when she arrives." She replied. Leaving her daughter's room, Adria felt accomplished seeing the smile on her daughter's face.

Augustine stood up and looked at her room. It wasn't a mess but it could use some tidying up. She could've called the maid but she preferred cleaning on her own.

As she cleaned, thunder slammed against the clouds in the sky.

Smiling softly, Augustine thought about those rainy days when she played with Riven.

It was always fun with him. He always knew how to make her laugh. From time to time she missed him and wondered how he was doing.

Biting her lip, she put away the last of her things and around her room to her bedside table. Inside there was the latest letter Riven had sent her. She picked up the letter and flopped on her bed, rereading it with a smile.

Present

THE LIGHT shone through the blinds and warmed Augustine's face. She covered her eyes, groaning She twisted in her bed, arms flopping everywhere when suddenly she made contact with something.

She slowly opens her eyes and they go wide.

Riven.

Riven's in her bed.

How could she forget he stayed the night?

"Good morning." Riven yawned. He smirked at her surprised expression.

"Hello." She said back, in shock.

Augustine sat up on her bed quickly and looked at Stella's bed. The bed was made, and the blonde was no where in sight.

Oh no.

Riven chuckled, "Don't worry she left the moment she saw me."

Augustine covered her face with her hands in embarrassment.

"Ugh, I am so getting teased later." She groaned, rubbing her hands over her face.

"Why?" Ruben asked, feigning innocence. "Is it wrong for a princess to have a guy in her bed?"

Augustine rolled her eyes. She picked up her pillow and hit him with it. "Shut up."

Riven laughed, "You know if you want to go, all you have to do is ask."

Augustine raised an eyebrow, "Oh really?" She teased.

"Yeah," He replied.

They both sat up, looking at each other. Augustine's mind reeled, she should ask him to leave. But his presence was so comforting

"Are you alright?" Riven asked, his eyebrows knit together. He was asking about last night.

Augustine sighed, "Yeah, I think I am." She climbed out the bed and walked towards her closet. The air was cold, she shivered in her sleeping shorts and tank top. "I'm worried about Silva though."

Riven hummed in agreement. Augustine dug in her closet and pulled out a crew neck. She continued talking, "And Sky."

"Me too, I bet he's working himself up right now."  Riven added, walking towards his shoes and slipping them on.

Augustine wrapped her arms around herself. Her eyes focused on his as they walked towards the suit door. Lucky for her, none of her suite-mates were in the common room.

"You should probably go and make sure he's alright." Augustine spoke softly.

Riven nodded, his eyes locked on hers. "Yeah, I should."

They stayed like that for a moment.

In their own little world.

Augustine moved first, she pulled him into a hug and whispered, "Thank you for being there for me."  She could smell the overwhelming scent of his cologne.

He hugged her back, his arms wrapped tightly around her. "Don't worry about it. It's what friends do." He whispered back.

She knew that he had hardened over the years. His behavior could be crude from what she heard but his was still Riven. The same boy who taught her to be confident with her magic.

He was still her friend.

Augustine smiled softly into his chest.

No words were exchanged after that, only soft stares. Riven opened the door and walked into the corridor.

From the other side of the door frame, Augustine shyly at him, then closed the door.

When he was gone, she leaned against the door looking at the ceiling.

She sighed.

Yes, they were friends, but that moment felt like so much more than that.
