3. Getting over you

In the end Kuroo, Lev and Kenma joined our shopping spree after school. While Alisa, her brother and the rooster created their own mini group, I stayed by Kenma’s side. Even though the others made me laugh and glow with happiness most of the time, I still felt more comfortable and at ease with Kenma.

We walked into a beauty shop with hundreds of displays of different makeup brands. I followed Alisa’s lead, because my knowledge of these powders were minimal. Of course I wouldn’t really use it since we have the perfect skin in this world, but I decided a few lipsticks and mascaras won’t hurt. As Alisa tested out a few blushes, I went to the mirror next to her. I was quite shocked by my appearance and it was obvious that I attended Nekoma High.

Spending time with Alisa was wonderful, but the fact that she was dating the person I had a crush on, still hammered at the back of my head, which made me secretly wish that we could just hurry up and go to Kenma’s house. I just really wanted to have my own personal space to cry out the rain that I’ve been bottling up today. Maybe the aftermath would consist of a radiant rainbow.

Eventually we finished shopping and walked the pink-pedal covered road. As we neared Kenma’s home, everything, including us, got a golden glow from the sun’s last smile of the day. After I’ve seen Kuroo’s features painted with that gold, I couldn’t look at him for the rest of the journey. My heart was crying, screaming and begging for mercy, so I decided that Kuroo’s attractive figure had been seen by my eyes enough for this eventful day.

I felt relieved when we entered Kenma’s house, because I could feel my battery power running out. Kenma’s mother was in the kitchen making dinner. Her eyes widened when she turned around to see a trio. Before she could ask necessary questions, Kenma spoke.

“This is Y/n L/n. She’s a new friend of mine. She needs a place to stay since she’s homeless.”

I lightly smacked Kenma on the arm while Kuroo snickered behind us. I took a few steps closer to Kenma’s mother and bowed politely. The awkwardness of the introduction soon faded away as Kenma’s mother cracked a few jokes about Kenma being a loner. After dinner, Kuroo went home and I followed Kenma upstairs to my new room.

The room was quite plain and minimalistic, but I knew that soon enough, my artistic personality would appear on every white wall. Kenma left the room, saying that he wanted to get apple pie. While I waited for him to come back, I packed away my new clothes in the mirrored closet and arranged the cosmetics on the dresser. Kenma came back with two plates and handed me one. I was quite shocked because I thought he would be protective of his favourite dessert. We took a seat on my new bed.

“Do you share your apple pie with everyone?”

Kenma shook his head, “No, not even with Kuroo.”

I frowned, “So I am an exception?”

Kenma quietly nodded. I didn’t ask any further questions and we ate our dessert in silence.

The pudding – haired was the first to speak again, “Are you in love with Kuroo?”

I stopped chewing and looked at him. His eyes were waiting impatiently for an answer.

“How did you figure it out?”

Kenma put the plates away and crossed his legs, “You didn’t make much eye contact with him. And your smile faltered after you saw Alisa kissing Kuroo. The others on the team were all too busy and curious to find out the details about you. But I saw the sadness you tried to hide away behind your eyes. I figured you faked those smiles just to cry out everything later, when you’re alone.”
