The midyear exams were a week away and we already created a study group which consisted most of the volleyball club members. Alisa also joined our study party. We were seated at the table in Kuroo’s kitchen, reading and making notes with hope to memorize all the work. I sat in between Kuroo and Kenma and Alisa sat next to Kuroo. Lev, Yamamoto and Yaku were seated across from us. They were struggling with languages while Kenma and I were picking our brains with maths. It seemed as if Alisa was studying physics, judging from the words and formulas shared between her and Kuroo.

I completely forgot that I was sitting next to my huge crush, because Kenma and I were so caught up with the algebra and helping each other. He was actually quite smart, just a bit lazy and distracted by his screen device. To my surprise, Kenma hasn’t been on his phone during the study session at all and the screen was nowhere in sight.

I felt Kuroo lean over to my side, “Where is Kenma’s phone? Did you take it?”

I also leaned over and whispered, “No. I haven’t seen it.”

Our whisper conversation was interrupted by Alisa asking for Kuroo’s guidance.

With a loud sigh, I took my light pink sticky notes and before I wrote down an important formula, I glanced at Kenma. He was concentrating quite hard on that specific question, because he had a slight frown. With a small smirk, I drew a simple cartoon like cat with Kenma’s hair and stuck it onto his book. Kenma stopped writing and eyed the drawing. Yamamoto leaned over the table, not minding his own business.

“Hey, Y/n. Can you draw me something cute, please?”

Now the attention of all the people around the table was on that pink sticky note.

“Why is it that only Kenma gets a cute sticky note?” Lev whined with Yamamoto.

“Concentrate on your work.” I said strictly and pretended to focus on the pages laid before me.

Kuroo laid back in his chair and crossed his arms, “Of course only Kenma will get something cute. It is Y/n’s way of flirting.”

I stopped my pretentious act and a warm wave climbed up my neck.

“Ohhhh! Y/n has a crush on Kenma!” Lev teased.

“Shut up, Lev.”Kenma mumbled and turned a page in his notebook.

I forced a smile, “ He’s my best friend, nothing more, nothing less.”

Kuroo gasped dramatically, “I thought I was Kenma’s best friend.”

I wrapped my arms around Kenma’s neck, “Well, it sucks to suck.” After pulling him close, I stuck my tongue out at Kuroo.

Our exams came in a blink of an eye. The days dragged by slowly and mercilessly. Our study group gathered once every three to four days, depending on our need for help. Finally, it was our last week of writing papers. My energy has been decreasing because of stress, concentration and lack of sleep. Eventually Thursday came and only one exam was left to write. Kenma and I were writing Biology tomorrow. The study group gathered around the table. Everyone was exhausted with dark circles under their eyes. Kuroo and Alisa were the lucky ones- they only had English literature to write.

I was currently summarizing the inhaling system and drawing human lungs. My concentration was not as good as before and I could feel my eyelids getting heavy. The others were trying their best to put in the last bit of effort, but yawned almost every minute. With a satisfying arm stretch, I glanced out the window. The sun was setting and the plants outside were painted yellow from the sun’s rays.
