6. I see red

Monday morning I woke up with that typical summer feeling turning in my stomach. I was in such a great mood that I did a bit natural makeup, finishing it with a nude lip gloss. I ran downstairs to meet Kenma for breakfast. The blush powders on my cheeks reddened when I saw him. He didn’t look any different, but his familiar face always had this effect on me.

On the train, Kuroo fell asleep and I wondered what made him so tired over the weekend. Kenma and I shared a pair of earphones. My head swayed with the song ‘Until I found you’ by Stephen Sanchez. Kenma played Minecraft on his phone, but I felt him stare at me from time to time. I just pretended I didn’t notice.

After school Kenma and I started our search for the art shop with the best paint prices. We entered ‘Art Heaven’ with me leading since I was more experienced with art supplies than Kenma. There was a good amount of different paints at the back of the shop. Kenma inspected the oil paint prices with a troubled face.

“Something wrong?” I asked stepping closer.

Kenma frowned before speaking, “Um, what kind of paint are we supposed to buy for pottery?”

I pressed my lips together to prevent me from smiling, “Plain old craft paint is the most effective when painting clay. One can also use acrylic paint, but craft paint is better.”

The poor cat seemed relieved. I figured that he was scared that I would think he was stupid. With a smile I wrote down the prices in my small notebook. We encountered four more shops and compared their prices. In the end we agreed that ‘Art Heaven’ had the most affordable prices and we decided to buy all the paint tomorrow since the sun was already setting.

The passing days consisted of minimal schoolwork and preparation for the festival. I decided to help the group assigned to do the decorations, since art was my specialty after all. Friday was tomorrow and fortunately everything regarding our clay class went smoothly.

I was currently staring at the uninteresting ceiling while laying on my bed. My stomach was turning for tomorrow’s possible events. I really wanted to make that clay cat and ladybug for Kenma, but anxiety was eating away my confidence. I contemplated whether or not I should confess after giving him the pottery piece, but decided against it. He should make a move first.

The next morning I woke up with an overwhelming feeling of excitement which made me slightly nauseous. I quickly brainstormed and organized my plans for the day. The festival would start at five o’clock. That means I should go to Alisa’s house at one o’clock. Fortunately the school would be ending earlier today.

I sat down at my desk and took out my English books. The past few days I’ve noticed that Kenma sneakily stared at me, which made my heart run a marathon. I can’t believe I’ve fallen for Kenma. Months ago, when I teleported to this world, my heart was set on Kuroo. I’ve liked the scheming rooster for so long. Then I fell for his best friend. It still felt surreal.

After school, I went straight to Alisa’s house. Her room was so modest and even boring compared to mine. It just showed how different our personalities were. We both took a shower before beginning our makeup session. Alisa helped me with the powders and the kimono. My kimono was black with pink Cherry blossoms on the bottom. Alisa’s matched her aesthetic, white with small blue flowers. We wasted no time and began styling our hair. I made a side braid and made a side bun with a hair pin gifted by Alisa. I slightly fiddled with my fringe before stepping back to look at my full body reflection.
