"Ready," said the deep voice, "Get set."
"Go." Levi ended, stuffing his pocket watch, safely away.
The three of you drifted off at the speed lighting, leaving the man behind. The determination to win the short race was soaring through the hot, humid air. Yours and Gabi's hair- whipping as Falco's fringe shook with might. Fast breaths along with red faces.
The race was merely, whoever could circle the block first. You failed to remember the last time you had raced anyone on bikes. Although this childlike activity brought a competitive smile upon your face as you surpassed Gabi. Now it was your turn for first place. It was becoming fairly difficult in its own way as your age was slowly catching up to you. Thighs stinging and sweating underneath your long trousers.
You didn't care as long as you were in the lead.
All of this commenced from a mere argument between Falco and Gabi. You somehow found yourself in the middle of the two as you would always do. The quarrel started with Gabi, fighting about how incredibly slow Falco was at riding his bike and everything between. The duo had gotten so loud in the quite tea store.
Bothering customers, it seemed Levi was nearly about to lose his very little patience as he was just about to step in and discipline in a harsh, unthinkable way. You quickly butted in, saving the two, and joined in, in an attempt to terminate the unnecessary fight.
You failed in doing so.
"Well Gabi...if you really think you are that fast, why don't you race again and see who really is the best. But I will be joining," you teased.
She rolled her eyes in sass. "I think you're one-hundred percent right Y/n! Falco what do you think," she said, nudging the boy in a mocking like way. He looked between the two of you in a quick sheen of nervousness.
"Very well! We'll have Levi time for us. It would be such a shame to have young children like yourselves, lose in a race with someone as old as me," you said, edging Falco even more.
"In your dreams hot shot!" Gabi yelled.
Staggered breaths left your mouth as you rounded the last corner, still in first place. You didn't have time to look behind you, you were too in the zone to be distracted. Out of the corner of your eye you could see the young girl enhanced her spot next to your very own bike. She giggled once and gave one last, hard peddle, exhilarating vastly ahead of you.
You panicked as you stepped up your peddling. Any further and you were sure your own pedals would fall off. As you came near to the store, Gabi was at least two full bikes ahead of you and Falco nowhere near in sight.
"You sure are fast!" You yelled up ahead, earning a laugh from her in response.
"I don't know if I can-" you shouted, stopping mid sentence as your front wheel hit a rock.
Hard.
Your heart lurched into your throat as well as your bike. It scent your body flying as if you were on a horse. You came in contact with the brick road painfully, causing your vision to go black for a short second.
"Ugh," you groaned in soreness, not too sure where it was coming from. It was all too hazy for the time being.
"I did it! I beat them! Y/n aren't you proud-" Gabi cheered, stopping mid sentence, now noticing your vulnerable position.
"Damnit!" Called out Levi from the store entrance. You sat up slowly, rubbing your head. Levi quickly found a spot next to you, kneeling his hurt knee down, onto the dirty bricks.
You made eye contact with the man only to see a demeanor of concern. It was the first time you had seen this look on him. "What happened?" You asked genuinely curious.
