Stefania
---Following Ms. Essington down the hall, my mind raced with questions. Why had she singled me out like that? Was I in trouble for something I didn't realize? The click of her heels echoed through the corridor, adding to my anxiety, until we reached her office.
She opened the door and gestured for me to enter. Once inside, she closed the door behind us and moved to sit behind her desk, fixing me with a sharp gaze.
"Take a seat, Stefania," she said, her tone firm.
I sat down, trying to keep my composure. "Is something wrong, Ms. Essington?"
She leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I noticed you speaking with Grayson Wood."
I nodded, unsure of where this was going. "Yes, he was just complimenting me on solving the math problem in class."
Ms. Essington's expression remained stern. "Grayson is one of our more... spirited students. He's talented, but he can be a distraction. I wanted to make sure you stay focused on your studies, especially given your potential."
I swallowed nervously. "I understand, Ms. Essington. I wasn't planning on letting anything distract me."
Her gaze softened just a fraction. "Good. Because I have high expectations for you, Stefania. You have a bright future ahead, and I'd hate to see you sidetracked."
Why would she care about that?
She paused for a moment, then continued, "There's another matter I wanted to discuss. As the principal, I oversee our extracurricular programs, and we believe you'd be an excellent addition to one of our teams. Specifically, we'd like you to consider joining the football team or, more precisely, the boxing team. Your discipline and focus would be a great asset."
Surprised, I blinked. "Boxing? I've never done it before."
Ms. Essington's gaze softened a bit more as she leaned forward slightly. "We believe you have the determination to excel. Plus, it's a good way to channel your energy. And who knows, you might enjoy it more than you expect."
I nodded slowly, considering the idea. "I'll think about it."
"Good, give me answer tomorrow. Everybody in this school do something more than just attending because of our scholarships" she said, a hint of a smile playing at the corner of her lips. " However I think you'd look quite striking in boxing gear. It would suit you."
I felt my cheeks warm slightly, unsure how to interpret her comment. "Thank you, Ms. Essington."
She stood up, indicating our conversation was over. "You may go to your next class now. And remember, if you need anything, my door is always open. How is your first day going so far?"
"It's going well, thank you," I replied, standing up to leave.
She nodded, her expression a mixture of strictness and something more. "Good. Keep it up, Stefania."
As I walked out of her office, I couldn't shake the feeling of being under her watchful eye. It was both intimidating and strangely motivating.
On my way to the next class, I heard my name called again. Turning around, I saw Grayson hurrying towards me.
"Hey, Stefania! Everything okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
"Yeah, just a little talk with Ms. Essington," I replied, trying to sound casual.
"She can be pretty intense," Grayson said, then grinned. "But don't let her scare you off. So, about that lunch?"
I smiled, feeling a bit lighter. "Sure, lunch sounds great."
